Nice hotel or b&b Basel

Hi,

Happy New Year English Forum! I need some travelling advice from all of you Basel locals:

We will be travelling by train to Basel in March, having booked tickets for the Lion King show on Feldbergstrasse. We need either a b&b or hotel conveniently located for: train station, old town (that we wish to explore) and the Musical Theatre. Can't afford a 580 SF bill for us 3 for one night only, so the "Grand Hotel les 3 rois" is out, however nice it may look.
The occasion being our 13 year-old daughter's birthday, we'll also be after a good restaurant.

Any tips, recommendations and shopping tips for a 13 year-old girl? (and a good tea room, cake place to rest for her parents!) Cheers.

Re: Nice hotel or b&b Basel

You have not specified what dates you are going to be there but if your dates fall within the Basleworld week, there will be no hope.
Basleworld is 19-26 March this year.

Restaurants will be full and prices upped and hotels within a 30 mile radius will be full up.

Re: Nice hotel or b&b Basel

Don't know prices or availibility, but the Easy Hotel is just down the road from Musical Theater and used to be reasonably priced.

The Dorint is also very close and used to be not too bad when there wasn't a fair on.

Both are by the 1/14 tram line, so easy to reach from SBB and town.

(Sorry, it's a long time since I stopped in a Basel hotel, so my experience might be somewhat outdated, but it'll give you somewhere to look while you wait for a better answer ).

Yeah, that'll change the prices and availability a lot (they even ship in extra hotel rooms via riverboats and people finance exotic holidays by renting out their apartments for the week). Even a week either side isn't going to be cheap.

No, a bit after that, thank goodness. Cheers for the warning, though.

Re: Nice hotel or b&b Basel

These guys are always booked out whenever I enquire about a place to stay for Fasnacht - so assume they are good.

http://www.angstdienste.ch/index.php?action=bnb1&lang=

I normally go for self catering during Fasnacht - the place I stayed last year was already booked so I'm in the Dorint this year.

Cheers,
Nick

Try the passage. It's fairly central and quite new
