Trip Report: Kerns OW Cow Parade (Alpabzug)
Looking for an event that features exquisitively decorated cows, smiling families of cow herders, stands featuring alper maggerone, risotto, spiessli, bratkäse, steak, sausages and lots of locals? Then I've got the cow parade for you.
Every year, Kerns in Canton Obwalden features a Dorffest on the last Saturday of September. They close off the roads, the locals set up stands throughout the town and as of 10.30, countless groups of cows adorned with flowers are herded through the streets. Between the sounds of cow bells, alphorns and yodellers, you'll be transported into a time that stood still. The herders are all real farmers and the stands all present products from the area. Cafe Zwetchgen and beer can be found at every stand and the everyone is just... nice and friendly. It's an event full of smiles and joy.
So if you don't have any plans on the last Saturday of September, head to Kerns from 10.00 - 14.00. It really is worth it.
Faith isn't about everything turning out okay. Faith is about being okay no matter how things turn out.
