| | Christmas markets
I am in St Gallen and would like to go to some Christmas markets nearby. I hear Bregenz has one but I don't know what it's like. Can anyone recommend any good ones? Angela

The Christmas Market in Einsiedeln is also awesome...more than 100 stands and a great atmosphere, with or without snow
It's about 1.5 hours drive from St. Gallen though, but I think it's worth the trip. We went there last year and for us it's even a longer trip. Didn't regret it.

The Christmas Market in Zürich by contrast , is pretty poor this year, compared with previous years and it seems pretty sparsely populated....mind you there are further stalls downstairs in the station and along Bahnhofstrasse.

Got to agree with you there Dave. I went in last week and there was anything but a christmas atmosphere. If you go over around the singing christmas tree there are only couple of stalls but its pretty nice with the music in the background.
If anyone fancies a weekend trip I was in cologne last weekend. the markets there are really really good and with the Dom Cathedral looming over you its all the more impressive.
I stayed in the Rhein Hotel St Martin. Very cheap so don't expect much (but still clean and basic) but right by the river and 200 metres from the old town. 30euro per night with breakfast.

Cool, I've been looking for an excuse to go to Konstanz. And I've never heard of Einsiedeln - I'll check it out.

it's not exactly close to St.Gallen but maybe some are still interested to come and have a look.
Biel-Bienne Christmas Market is opening December 7th and lasts until Sunday 23rd http://www.weihnachtsmarkt-biel.ch/-...t/default.aspx
cheers

He's excelled himself with this one, I thought resurrecting 7 year old threads was bad enough but this one has topped that.
He'll be telling us he's written all his Christmas cards and wrapped all his presents next. | This user would like to thank Belgianmum for this useful post: | |

I think this is perfect timing! Just started planning my Christmas Market outings earlier today. (No joke!)
Anyone been to the markets in either Oslo or Stockholm? Thinking of a weekend trip for one somewhere in Scandinavia and am trying to decide between these two.
