Our team (english speaking) goes shooting here on a monthly basis:
https://www.schiessanlage.ch/

.308 tends to be reserved for private evenings (as the public ones you can only shoot pistol calibers, in theory... in practice if it's quiet you can also do 308/223)

I'm planning an event here:
https://www.swiss-shooting-academy.com/
(starting with Pistol basics, then holster training then dynamic shooting - all in English).

If any of these are of interest, you should join us

(part of me is considering looking into what it would take to register/open an English speaking shooting club/group... seems like we keep building on people, but are doing everything very informally)
Great - many thanks, and I’ll be in touch.

Hi All,

I'm in the process of moving to Zurich from the UK.

I'm a licensed shooter in the UK, and I've been in contact with the Federal police to get the process for importing my guns and getting a Cantonal license in Zurich.

However the range question is a valid one for me - what would be the easiest/friendliest club to shoot:

.308
.22
Target shotgun (IPSC style)?

My German is pretty basic, but I'd like to join a club or range for the social aspect as well as the shooting.
If you are interested in pistol calibers only and you plan to shoot regularly I can also recommend www.tsbirmensdorf.ch.
It is significantly bigger than Tivoli (more lines and 25m instead of 12m), open more hours per week (I like that you can go quite late 3 workdays per week). The drawback: it's not walk-in, you have to get an annual membership, you can't even try it once for yourself, only if going together with another member.
The price for annual membership is similar to Tivoli one.

Bumping an old thread, as I'm on the prowl for a new range.

I've been successfully using the range at Tivoli for a few years, and it's great.

The downside is that you're only allowed pistol calibers now... I have a few 7.62 and 5.56 rifles that need somewhere to shoot. Ideally something with a 100m range. There's a great one near Lausanne (lagardere), but I can't find a similar one in Zurich

Any ideas? Ideally something that doesn't force me to join a club (as I still haven't found an English speaking shooting club).
If you are willing to travel ~1h by car from time to time, an interesting option might also be https://bruenigindoor.ch (they claim to be the biggest underground shooting range in the world). The range goes up to 300m, and I'm sure you can shoot those calibers cos I shot a .223 rifle there. No membership is required, so you can just pay as you walk in.

I can't see prices on their site - when you say similar, is it similar to tivoli's 50CHF annual membership, or closer to the 780CHF annual subscription?

You can find the prices in the "terms of use". It's 850 chf per year, unlimited access. Quite pricey, but if you go regularly - in my opinion it's a better deal than Tivoli. You can also bring a guest 5 times per year for free

Even at Brunig you have to become a member but it only costs about 20 CHF life membership (more of a registration). friendly staff and English speaking. Pistol range is 25M Rifle upto 300m. like everywhere it is closed during the current situation.

Yep, it's a one-off 10 CHF for the card: https://bruenigindoor.ch/de/Ueber-un...-Informationen

Re: Shooting Range near Zurich?

Resurrecting this thread.

So I'm a member of TSB in Birmensdorf (excellent experience by the way, and highly recommended) but unfortunately they don't allow rifle calibers (e.g. .223 Rem/5.56 NATO), as I would like to train with larger calibers, is there another range nearby that offers a subscription model like TSB but allows rifles? I go quite often so paying for every visit wouldn't really work.

I've started using this range:
https://www.swiss-shooting-group.ch/

in addition to this one:
https://www.schiessanlage.ch/

The second is more laid back (no real checks of anything once they know you, and as long as you're alone, you can shoot anything).

The first is much more formal, and they've told me "As long as you can it through the door, you can shoot that caliber". The only exception in shotgun shells need to be slugs (so no birdshot). Full auto is also allowed, but you need to warn them in advance.

Just remember, Glocks don't have a safety. (in case you should borrow the neighbor's cousin's best friend's 9mm blower)

Re: Shooting Range near Zurich?

Im the wrong person for doing this (very introverted), but maybe someone could organise something like an Englishforum shooting club ? To go to one of these venues as a group, maybe on a regular basis ? Maybe compete in the Swiss 300m etc ?

The problem with these, in my opinion, is that they are 20 and 12 meters respectively if I'm not wrong. It's nice that you can try to shoot any caliber and it can be fun for one time, but if we are speaking about an .553 long rifle, 12m is really not enough to do something interesting on a regular basis.

To shoot high calibers on long distances (e.g. 300m) I actually enrolled in SGZ. It's nice, but it's definitely not a commercial one - a Verein in all the senses (rules, calendars, competitions, etc.).

I am not aware of any 300m commercial range around (bruning for example is nice, but it's far). Do you have any suggestions?

By looking at Swiss Shooting Academy website, one class I was interested in was home defense, since it also seems to explain the legal basis, etc. But I'd clearly need to take it in English. If several people are interested, maybe we could ask them to make one in English: https://app1.edoobox.com/de/SSA/ADVA...66/?edtag=Kurs

I actually considered putting together an "expatriate shooting club" a few months ago. I have about 6-10 people who would join (the regulars I shoot with). My only challenge is I have no idea what setting up a non-profit club in CH entails... if you know (or anyone else knows), let's talk.

I don't shoot glocks... not a fan. I own a few firearms (in Switzerland and abroad), and wil be adding a few more to the Swiss collection soon.

If talking 9mm, I prefer my beretta M9A3. .45, nothing beats a classic 1911 with walnut grips. I'm looking for a 2011, but they don't seem very popular in CH. Currenly on the market for a benelli m3 with the 65mm barrel, but these aren't common in CH (near impossible to find actually)

Re: Shooting Range near Zurich?

Maybe it would be an idea to contact a shooting club and ask them how to set up a verein ? Or mybe a big club (like the one in ZH at the albisguetli) would be interested in setting up a foreigner section ? A section where english is spoken, where it is not assumed members know anything about the Swiss shooting world and where people are a bit less serious (no special shooting jackets and all that sort of stuff, and not necessarily Swiss guns)
