Emergency travel Zurich-Cardiff

Hello forum friends,

I have a colleague who needs to get from Zurich to Cardiff in the next few days because her mum had a stroke...

I know she could also go from Bristol, Basel etc. Does anyone have some good ideas.

In the meantime, I'll keep looking...

Re: Emergency travel Zurich-Cardiff

AFAIK from Zurich KLM offers flights with a connection through AMS

Found also this_:

Re: Emergency travel Zurich-Cardiff

Thank you. The AMS connection does seem the best... or (knowing about airports) London city and then the train/car.

I looked at a similar trip the other day and Zürich - Heathrow with Swiss and then car was best in the end. I flew through Heathrow recently and it was a doddle

Re: Emergency travel Zurich-Cardiff

By train. E.g. Monday:

Zürich HB 9:34 TGV to Gare de Lyon, Paris (arrives 13:40)
Paris-Nord EST 15:03 to London St Pancreas EST (arrives 16:39)
London Paddington 17:45 to Cardiff Central (arrives 19:48)

Goodness knows how much it will cost!

Flybe operate the only direct flights to Cardiff from Switzerland, and only on Tuesdays and Saturdays from Geneva.
Tues 26 Feb Geneva 1400 - 1455 Cardiff CHF 95.00 Flybe.

Re: Emergency travel Zurich-Cardiff

If your friend hasn't already booked, there are cheaper options than KLM, particularly if she's only taking hand luggage. Also, as others have said, take a look at the direct flights to Bristol from Geneva.
Hope everything works out for your friend. Like many people here, I know how horrible it is to travel in these circumstances.

Sunday 24 Feb

Geneva 1625 - 1710 Bristol CHF 208.46
Basel 2125 - 2210 Bristol CHF 162.99 Easyjet

Zurich 0620 - 0745 Berlin Tegel CHF 101.91 Easyjet
Berlin Tegel 1120 - 1230 Cardiff CHF 116.93 Flybe
Mon 25 Feb
Geneva 1025 - 1115 Bristol CHF 213.51 Easyjet
Geneva 1655 - 1740 Bristol CHF 177.15 Easyjet
Geneva 2105 - 2150 Bristol CHF 145.34 Easyjet
Tuesday 26 Feb
Geneva 1330 - 1415 Bristol CHF 129.68 Easyjet
Geneva 1655 - 1740 Bristol CHF 199.37 Easyjet
Wed 27 Feb
Basel 1515 - 1600 Bristol CHF 139.76 Easyjet

Zurich 0730 - 0900 Paris CDG CHF 79 Swiss
Paris CDG 1240 - 1305 Cardiff CHF 102.47 Flybe
Thur 28 Feb

Re: Emergency travel Zurich-Cardiff

All sounds very nice, but the easiest is a flight to Heathrow, and there are plenty plenty of flights from any airport in Switzerland to Heathrow and then rent a car, straight down the M4 to Cardiff.

It might not the the absolute cheapest way to do it , but if it is an emergency, do you really want to count the cost ?

Multiple tickets/airlines......great as long as all goes to plan but if first airline is delayed, the second airline doesn't care and won't reimburse you or re-schedule you automatically, they may give a gesture of good will.

The delay can be considerable and expensive to buy a ticket last minute.

Fly to Heathrow, rent a car, drive to EXACTLY where you want in Cardiff (as once you at bus/train station you still need a taxi ride to your final destination) easiest, quickest, guaranteed.

Fly to Birmingham, car hire really cheap, it's small airport & you are in the car 30 minutes after landing. About 90 minutes drive time.

But are their so many flights to Birmingham ?

Heathrow there are plenty, you miss one or get delayed, high chance you'll have another flight withing an hour or so ?

Easy jet are doing up to 3 a day from Geneva during the ski season, Swiss do a daily flight to ZH which I have used a few times. Car hire from Heathrow, Luton or Gatwick can easily waste an hour.
