| | Where to stop in the way to Lyon?
Hi,
We are travelling to Lyon by car (leaving Switzerland in Geneva) and I was looking for nice places in the way for a short stop. Obviously it should be as close to the main route (highway) as it gets. All suggestions are appreciated.
Many thanks

Why would you want to stop midway between Geneva and Lyon anyway? It’s not really very far.

To stretch one's legs.
To slow down the pace and take things nice and easy.
To have a cup of coffee.
To discover some treat of a pretty or interesting little place one might otherwise overlook while whizzing past on the freeway.
To have a micro-holiday within a trip to somewhere.
To feel the thrill of seeing something that many tourists never even know is there.
To buy a very local speciality food.
To have a picnic.
And so on.

Nantua is the only place I can think of that might be worth stopping at.

Yes, Nantua looks picturesque!

This, outside Chambéry, also looks lovely!

I find Morges to be pretty Especially a bit uphill along the wine yards.
Could not really get what your route is, but have guests coming over soon and our plan is to go to Montreux and stop in Gruyer on our way.

You can do all of that and far better than anywhere en route in Lyon, it is an absolutely wonderful city to visit !
As for your list, if it really is necessary to stop for whatever reason, peeing, coffee drinking there are plenty of services on the high way.
As to buying a "local specialty food", Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France by far, just go to Les Halles Paul Bocuse, here you can find whatever is available in France
