The "day trippers" in Tessin

I was in Maggiatal ( Maggia ) last week camping. There were thousands of day trippers.Only standing room in the buses ( if that). All one heard was Swiss German. Are they ruining Tessin?

Re: The "day trippers" in Tessin

Nobody from Ticino goes camping in Ticino, just saying.

Hell, twice when we stayed overnight in Vallemaggia in a rooming house, the cops called me to ask if my motorcycle (which was parked next to the cop-house) had been stolen!

No, rather it's not normal for Ticinese to stay in another part of Ticino overnight rather than just going home! (or so I was told by the cops when I asked)

I'm not talking about campers. I refer to these " day trippers". People coming from Zürich ( for example ) for the day. It felt like an invasion! Its really quick with the new tunnel.

Were you staying at an official camping?

Otherwise they should have fined you 500 CHF!

How do you know they are day-trippers? If you were on the same bus, what made you look like you were staying longer than the others on the bus?

It is also true, happened in Cevio (both times).

The third time was worse. I went to collect my daughter's bike, and it wasn't there, so I went to the Cevio police to report the theft (I needed the report for the insurance). Several days later they phone me to say that they had found it, impounded it, but then someone stole it from the police impound lot!

In the end, I got as much from the insurance for a stolen 4 year old bike, as I had paid new (CHF 2800).

Obviously they were German speaking, Ticinese day trippers take the car or motorcycle, not public transport!

90 % day trippers. Have you ever travelled on the EuroCity train from Zürich to Locarno?

Yes, but I've never asked all of them in order to come to that conclusion. Did they all wear labels?
