| | A walk in the Snow, but where from Basel?
I want to walk with the dog in the snow for a couple of hours on Sunday, but there's no snow in my usual haunts, even Weissenstein is barren.
Any recommendations on the closest accessible spot by car? Needs to be proper pisted paths, as ol' hariry ends up like a snowman otherwise, unable to move.
I was thinking Sörenberg, as you can park and walk with no need for a cablecar, and only 1hour 30.
Also Melchsee-Frutt, but then it's a cablecar.
Never tried Beckenreid, which is close but looks like snow only starts at the top.
All suggestions welcome ( except the 'go feck yerself mate' ones ).

I was going to suggest Wasserfallen (by far, the closest "mountain" (inverted commas because it's <1,000 m) to Basel), but the live cam there shows that it's naked of snow at the moment. Later in the season, though, you should have some luck.

Snow-forecast.com has a snow finder feature. Use a ski place like Langenbruch as a starting point.

In the event, went to Melchsee, beautiful day and wonderful vistas.
The dog was crazy with snow excitement.
90 mins each way mind, but beggars can't be chosers with this lack of snow.
It was very busy as you may expect.

I was in Arosa to get above the Zürich fog a couple of weeks ago to walk / hike in the sun. Really accessible by train. well prepared walking/hiking trails with wonderful compact snow all around at about 2300m. First day did about 5 hours easy/moderate hiking, second about 30km, third only 2 hours and spent the afternoon being served cüplis on my sunchair at the Tschuggenhütte. https://arosaberggastro.ch/tschuggenhuette
Have to warn you though that I got a room at the end of the low season, which was cheap. Looked to extend my stay into the high season and the prices doubled |

(There are also lots of signed walking trails )
