Grand Tour

Hello dear EF community,

With Covid-19, My wife and I, have been thinking to take it easy and stay in Switzerland. We plan to buy a camper and do "lake-hopping". I found the grand-tour online.

https://grandtour.myswitzerland.com/en/

Will be eager to hear from somebody who did it? What was the experience like and how much time did it take?

Cheers

Nice idea. No, I've not done it.
With lots of people having their holidays in Switzerland this summer, you should look up the camping places and book space.

Re: Grand Tour

I've done parts of it.

Bought the map, which was helpful, as the signposting is a bit intermittent.

Beautiful drives and ideal if you have time to deviate a bit from the routes and stop to see things. Using the Michelin App to pinpoint particularly nice stretches in addition to the main route is helpful. The Grand Tour route is pretty much all on easy to drive, wide roads, if you mix it up with the Michelin routes you will usually see even more scenic places but may end up on narrow little roads, e.g. if you go up to see the Giessbachfälle (absolutely worth it!), the road going up there is best navigated when there is less traffic as parts are just wide enough for one car.

Certain places are pretty full at the weekend, at least I assume they are based on how many people there were during the week. I did the section of the route around the Hallwylersee on a Saturday (again, worth pulling over at the parking in Seengen and walking down to the lake) and found it not too crowded, I guess it is not as "glamorous" as Tessin or Graubünden.
