| | Break quarantine to leave country
Hi all
I’ve looked at the guidelines but I couldn’t see anything on this but does anyone know if you can break quarantine to leave the country?
Returned back from the UK Sunday and 4 days in but something pretty major has come up (family) and I need to get back ASAP.
Can I break quarantine if I leave the country? I’d rather not sit out the next 6 days to do another 14 days in the UK racking up 20.

I'm in France but may have to return to Switzerland for a few days before heading back to France. i asked the same question of the office in Kanton Zug and got this reply from them: Good morning
Unfortunately, you will have to stay in quarantine for 10 days when you come to Switzerland.
If you only stay in Switzerland for 3 days, you must also spend the full 3 days in quarantine,
which means no shopping, no walking outside etc. Stay indoors for 3 days.
Please register using the form on the Kanton Zug website: https://iform.zg.ch/iform/pub/AIO/st...e5ce17610b152#
Note in brackets at the address that you will only stay for 3 days in Switzerland.
If you wish to leave Switzerland, you must do so under strict hygiene conditions.
With masks and 1.5 m distance to other people. After that you are not allowed to enter Switzerland for the next 14 days.
We hope we could serve you with this information.
Kind regards,
The not being allowed back to Switzerland for 14 days won't be an issue for me, but maybe for others.
Hope thats helpful

I don't see why not. I assume it's similar to the UK where so long as you go straight out of the country without stopping over it should be fine. We did a recent trip to the UK, 4 days there quarantining and then straight back out again.
Whether you'd need to quarantine again in the UK, having been in quarantine here since you got back, I don't know.

Yes I will ask regarding the double quarantine as it makes no sense doing it twice.
I think I will call Kanton Zurich tomorrow and ask if I can leave. The UK is clear as long as you go direct then it’s ok. I would get driven to the airport CH side so minimal contact.

To me it would make no sense not doing it twice.

Same for me and medic OH. This especially if you fly as you will be in contact with many others at airport and even more so, in plane- both ways.
I know several people with really serious family health problems who have had to accept they can't go and visit, due to quarantine both sides- and having nowhere to quarantine in UK anyhow- as you can't quarantine with family or friends.

In the UK you can quarantine with friends who can go about their daily business - which we all know makes no sense.

I really don't see how leaving your home in Switzerland while potentially infected and infectious to go to an airport to sit on a plane for two hours to transit through another airport to transit to another address complies with "Stay at home and do not leave for any reason".
I know the UK lets you cut "self-isolation" short but that also doesn't really make any sense.
Probably best to ask the Swiss health dept as you're supposed to contact them in any case.

Their mandate is to control public health in Switzerland not abroad. Obviously they would be within their rights re: Swiss airports and Swiss public transport.

the airport at the weekend was totally dead and the plane only had about 20 passengers. really sad for the travel industry and economy
compare that with ikea in Spritenbach where no one is wearing masks, I would say air travel at the moment is very safe actually and low risk.
I know what you mean though, two different rules and none of the make a lot of sense.

The rules are "stay at home for 10 days". Getting in your car and driving anywhere is contrary to that.

Just checked and it seems that is indeed the case, And it is absolute and total nonsense. You can waltz in from red zone, having used public transport and plane, and 'self isolate' with family or friends - who then go on into the community to work, or school, or whatever. This is absolutely stupid in the extreme and totally irresponsible https://youtu.be/CYmn76Y50Us

Not so much "with" but within the same house. The idea being one is kept seperate from other members of the house. Maybe if your family owns a farmhouse with separate guest accommodation...
Much like the quality control in the company I used to work for, the idea is not for 100% control but overall sufficient to make things not too bad, and in terms of coronavirus transmission, it doesn't really seem to be working. Governments have to weigh up other social issues and "saving lives" is not the priority that many people think it should be.

But according to the OP's thinking if he can leave Switzerland while under Swiss quarantine he surely could leave Germany while under German quarantine too
