Chateau de Vullierens - How crowded on weekends?

Thinking ahead to the post-COVID days when (if ever?) we can get out and about again...

Those in the know: How crowded does the Chateau de Vullierens typically get on April and May weekends?

I've done so little exploring across the Rostigraben; I probably should rectify that before it's too late. I'd love to see the gardens at Vullierens, but I'd need to take one of my dogs with me, which is less than ideal in crowds. Hence the question.

Many thanks.

They are well worth a visit.

I have been twice, once on a Monday in early June and it was pretty much empty.

The other time was a Saturday in mid May and there were a lot more people there but it didn’t feel particularly crowded. It is very spacious so it is quite easy to keep away from people.

I was there on a Sunday during the last confinement around April. There were people, but it wasn’t crowded. And we had to stay in the gardens, we couldn’t get indoor.

It’s a beautiful place, I highly recommend it!

I live nearby to Vullierens and pass by the château often, I've only ever seen it busy on sunny weekends. During the week it is nice and quiet.

Even if it's "busy", there is so much space that you can avoid other people easily. Getting a parking space may be more of a problem than space in the chateau. It's gorgeous, who know that irises could have so many different scents and colours!

I have serious allergies to Irises, which I only learned of when my wife-to-be took me on a tour of the gardens.

Never again ... At least not when they are in flower.

Re: Chateau de Vullierens - How crowded on weekends?

No idea about this place but just generally speaking (and might be valid for this place as well or not):
A friend of mine used to work for the SBB. She once told me that the quiest time to visit a museum etc. is Wednesday MORNING.

Because all school aged children don't have school on Wednesday afternoon, there is no school-outings on Wednesday morning. Also many parents don't go anywhere with smaller children because they have to be back at lunchtime because the older ones come home form school.

So if you can be there when it opens, there will be very few children. Just make sure you will be gone by lunch because in the afternoon it might be the other way round ;-)

Re: Chateau de Vullierens - How crowded on weekends?

The castle finally opened this past weekend and I'm keen to visit with friends from Aargau but I don't know when the best time is to go. Anyone know when the irises are at their peak?

Re: Chateau de Vullierens - How crowded on weekends?

I’d give it at least another two or three weeks.
Things in the garden are quite a bit behind compared to the past couple of years and mine are nowhere near flowering at the moment.
There may be some early flowering varieties in bloom but most of them won’t be flowering yet.

Thanks a lot! I think we'll aim for late May-early June.
