day pass adventures! (any frozen lakes in switzerland?)

hello ef thanks for any help as usual. appreciate it!

me and my friend have a day pass for tomorrow which means we can go anywhere.

previously when ive had one its been like 'go to geneva coz its furthest and then stop at lausanne and bern' and then home. this is a great day of course and such fun but...

can anyone please maybe recommend an even more exciting schedule leaving from zurich.

maybe we can go up to the top of a mountain somehow?

my friend also said she'd love to see a frozen lake.

This place seems open but unfortunately not on Sundays due to Covid, it says at the very bottom of the site.
Look for "gefrorene Seen Schweiz".

Find the 5060 reasons why in the 21st century they won't really let you have fund like this anymore. (I bet all people in that film are still alive and kicking).

Maybe go to Arth Goldau and up to the Rigi. There is snow and you can go for a walk. Could also go down to Vitznau and back to Lucerne by boat and back to Zuri from there. Make sure to check if the boat runs.

Other option would be Arosa or Lenzerheide. For both you go to Chur first. Arosa is another train, Lenzerheide a Postauto. Both have a lake. Not sure if its frozen. You would need to check.

St. Moritz also has a lake. Its a longer journey. Again you need to check if its frozen

Enjoy your day out

Caumasee in flims is frozen. Train to Chur, Postauto, and a pleasant 20 minute walk.

A frozen lake covered by snow looks like a frozen lake covered by snow.

Re: day pass adventures! (any frozen lakes in switzerland?)

hey guys i REALLY appreciate your replies, they are such great ideas.

i read them all too late because I couldnt get online before we'd set off already! (long story)

these are great ideas tho and irish_temptation we'll follow that route in april for when we've got another day ticket. if you book these ahead btw you can get them very cheap actually, like 30 chf! probably everyone knows that.

axman, it's a shame we didnt see your frozen lake suggestion tbh. ive been to flims as well, it's a lovely place. if we'd have seen your idea, we'd have gone.

curley that's the funniest thing i've seen what a video. they better these days at least have signs up next to the lake with pictures of someone surfing a VW beetle crossed out in red. tbh judging by the soundtrack of that video they dont have fun with the music like they used to either. thanks for the link, that place looks like a real nice place to visit anyway.

so anyway what we did do was the classic 'go as far as you can in one direction and then come back' and we went to zermatt and then all the way up the cog rail right next to the matterhorn (paid extra for this btw) to the end station whose name escapes me despite being there like earlier on today. i took so many photos of the matterhorn i forgot to look at it. that sounded like a haiku tbh now i think about it. anyway what im saying is that ive now got 100 photos of the matterhorn more than i had this morning.

Thanks for coming back to us. I am sure you had a great day anyway. There is always options for a next time

Now you can tick Zermatt from your list. Also not a bad thing.

Keep exploring.

Etang de la Gručre (Jura) was frozen yesterday and you could walk on the ice. For future reference for next time it gets cold. Train to Saignelégier, then bus to Moulin de Gručre.

Gornegratt, and IIRC from there you can see a frozen lake at the base of the Matterhorn, if you know what to look for. Surprisingly it looks like a frozen lake covered by snow.

Bit late but there's the Schwarzsee in Fribourg. Quite simple to get there by public transport. Just get to Fribourg train station and PostAuto there to the lake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwarzsee
