| | Jura - looking for recommendation
I need a change of scenery. Given the current situation I want to stay within Switzerland.
Jura is one area that I have hardly been and I am keen to explore it a little. Can anyone (Odile?) recommend a nice hotel / B&B that I could stay with a friend for 3 nights? If possible at the end of the month. No skiing.
PM is also fine |

The Jura is a misleading term- it is a whole chain of mountains spanning several countries, a French Départment, a Swiss Canton- and also very present in Vaud, Neuchâtel, Bern and Basel (and more?) oh and a Scottish Island.
Neuchâtel Jura is in the middle, and my favourite, of course. Would you prefer to be in a very rural, isolated area, or in a village or town. Would you like to rent electric bikes, visit Museums, hike in wild places? Perhaps visit some Absinthe distilleries? Car or public transport?
Would you prefer to rent a small house, AirbnB, BnB or traditional Hôtel? Lots of choice even with Covid around. What sort of budget? Have many friends who run AirbnB.

Sent one suggestion by pm. Sadly another friend with B&B has had to stop because of health problems.
Hôtel de l'Aigle in Couvet is decent, with good food.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately we just had a change of plan.
But it will be back on again for later in the year, then hopefully also with more possibilities.
Neuchâtel Jura sounds great. We will have a car. All the options sound lovely. With a car rual is perfectly fine. Once restaurants are open life will be easier again.
Thanks a lot! really appreciate it

If you’re into camping, Tariche is idyllic. Au fil du Doubs is a nice B&B in nearby Saint-Ursanne, La Ferme de La Praz on the „balcony“ of the Jura vaudois. At the decadent end of things, you can treat yourself to the Auberge du Mouton in Porrentruy or the Grand Hotel des Rasses in Les Rasses. Go for it - very rewarding region!

PM is also fine | | | | | Did you go? and where. Would be interested to know. Our meadow is still available btw, for motorhome or camping. As said, we are in Jura is a deceptive word. We are in NE Jura, some EF members are in VD Jura, or BE Jura ... and some in Jura Jura . And of course the French side too. Both Doubs/Franche Comté and Jura Départements.
This is a lovely place, but isolated on top of mountain, just in France.
Le Tillau near Pontarlier and Lac St Point. https://letillau.com/ dogs allowed too at E10 per night.
The Grand Hôtel in Les Rasses St Croix is also wonderful- but you absolutely want a south facing room, with all Romandie and the Alps at your feet. Grandeur a bit dated- but wonderful. It has a massive sunny terrasse with amazing views, and an indoor pool. https://www.grandhotelrasses.ch/
I have 100s of ideas, but depends on likes and dislikes and budget.

Last weekend we visited the la Maison de l'Absinthe, which was our first visit to that area. We definitely want to go back and visit some of the distilleries next time - 3 samples at the museum was enough for one day. We're thinking of visiting again in the spring - maybe my parents will be here again, and they will probably like my help.

My part of the world, and my speciality so do ask for any info anytime . Where did you stay? Or was it a day visit?
So much more to see and do in the region, including the Creux-du-Van and the Gorges de l'Areuse and Gorges de la Poetta Raisse.

The Museum/bar mentionned above is a good place to start. There are about 30+ distillers in the region. Now legal again- but very active during the 100 years of prohibition. Happy to give recommendations.

Our kids (8, 10) want to camp more and we're on the lookout for interesting options which are relatively low key, allow single night stays... and are accessible by public transit or with a reasonable hike.

Hi Jackie
After another change of plan we ended up going to the Jura Jura in Switzerland. We stayed at https://aubergedajoie.ch/ for a couple of days and did some light walking in the area. It was really nice and we voted to go back to the area. Maybe later this year or next. I really appreciate your tipps and will look into them once is sure. You live in a beautiful part of Switzerland!

Glad you enjoyed it- and happy to help with any more tips and more specific information. I was born in NE Jura, close to where I live now after 40 years in UK. And my family's origin is in the Jura Jura Huguenots.
Last time I went to the region, last Summer, I stayed in La Demi-Lune in St Ursanne, and L'Auberge de Bellelay, a medieval building recently refurbished to high standards (where the Tête de Moine is made). Both were really nice in different ways. Our room at the Demi-Lune overlooked the Doubs and the bridge.

We went to Gorges de l'Areuse and Gorges de la Poetta Raisse. Highly recommend. I can only imagine how the river looks in the spring when snow melts. Cool places indeed!

Considerably fuller and in faster flow than now i would presume.
