| | Where are the airforce bases?
Anything to see there?
I've been in Interlaken and surrounding areas all week and we constantly hear the jets above (at least during office hours), normally pretty high up but I've seen them a few times, the distinctive F18s ..
Wondering if there's a base nearby that's worth a visit, see some take offs / landings?

Closest to you would be Payerne. Definitely worth a visit and take along the kids. First stop should be the Clin d'Ailes Aviation Museum. Up until 2017 there were two roads that intersected the runway that were controlled as level crossings: open for regular traffic except during business hours (you literally just drove across the runway). But when the lights flashed and the gates came down, instead of trains whooshing by you had F18s taking off and landing. Apparently these crossings are now permanently closed, but you can still get very close to the runway and planes taking off. They normally take off for their afternoon flights on weekdays at 13:30, but I bet some plane enthusiast here might be able to provide more precise information about flying times, as I'm not 100% sure they fly every day.
Here's a link with some info in English.

They don't fly every day, look at their schedule (planification du service du vol 2021) https://www.vtg.admin.ch/fr/organisa...e_et_planifica | The following 2 users would like to thank Axa for this useful post: | |

You can get super close to watch take-offs even if you can’t go on to base. They often go up right after lunch.

The museum at Payerne is open in the afternoons Mon-Fri, and it’s on your way home. Could be a nice break in the journey.
