Chuff, I manage my risk. I’ve been abroad 20+ times in the past year, had more tests than I care to think about (last one on Saturday) and am 100% negative.

Just because you’re uncomfortable with it does not make my trip wrong or anrisk.

btw the Swiss restrictions are hardly solid, compare them to our neighbours.

And yes, I went to a restaurant last Monday too.
It's a suffering contest. The more you deprive yourself these days the best you are. I'd just let anyone else win and get all the medals, shorter period in purgatory or internet points.

If you are fine with it then I guess you don't need to spend time defending it to random strangers on the interwebs. An obviously yes, you test negative until you get COVID.

I didn't see SC defend it anywhere. He was sharing his thrill of anticipation for the trip. Well he tried to until he was attacked about having the nerve to do something perfectly legal.

The good thing about the vaccinated and the well travelled people is they are regularly tested, great to hang out with these days.

Btw, Petra in Jordan is one of them. I'm sure Oman is a nice place but it didn't really get under my radar so to speak. Oh and Israel..again. As soon as possible.
I'd love to go to Jordan ... enjoy your trip and don't worry about what us strangers have to say. Have fun!

The Australian government basically said that they won’t open there borders even once every single Australian resident is vaccinated World’s gone bananas! We’ll never get back to normal in that case.
The situation in AUS is changing pretty rapidly, plus the community tends to live in a bubble down under and as such, the pollies (politicians) tend to get away with a lot of sensationalism and false narratives.

Australia cannot afford to lose tourism, but importantly Education-tourism, a group of the biggest universities have said they will likely have to fold if they have to endure a third year of ~10% of their student base which are full paying are not allowed in next year. Just one example....

Actually not.

Having the virus is NOT the same as having COVID.

Re: Holidays abroad during Covid

So with the vaccine rollout speeding up around Europe, and with various governments making noises about having international vaccine passes ready to go within the next few weeks, it sounds as if countries will be opening up and travel will getting back to normal by mid/end June. Anyone ready yet to start booking their summer holidays aboard? Or is the risk still too high?

I really want to sing in the Royal Albert Hall again, in July. But I am not booking yet.

I wouldn’t either, I’m pretty sure normal travel to the UK will be OK by then but I’m not sure large scale singing events will be back on the agenda that early.

All restrictions gone by 21st June (allegedly) including nightclubs reopening and singing events.

A lot of people are already travelling. I'm seeing plenty of Dutch caravans on the roads again for example. I guess especially pensioners who have already had both jabs and don't really mind the quarantine. Or working people taking "home office" priviledges to the extreme.

Re: Holidays abroad during Covid

We've just rearranged our aborted Egypt trip and will be heading off to Crete in June.

We were limited by Easyjet's direct flights from CH, given that the previous flights were changeable but not refundable, and the Crete ones are now costing as much as the earlier-booked flights to Hurghada. chf4 extra, in fact.

We'll be staying in a small self-contained bungalow/villa, with village/restaurants/supermarket ten minutes walk away, so still good for the social distancing thing.

It will actually be the first time we've been to Greece other than a sailing trip, although we may still rent a yacht for a day or two, just day sailing, or maybe a powerboat of some sort...

Just hoping the Greece doesn't suddenly get a spike in cases and get itself on the quarantine list, cos this time the accommodation is not refundable.

Greece is already in Switzerland's list of risk countries since the beginning of April. Or you are referring to travellers arriving there?

I've already booked my tickets for end of July as well about a month ago. But maybe I'm being too optimistic!

Yes, many Dutch like to holiday in Switzerland anyway, and with the lockdown restrictions being more relaxed here than elsewhere in Europe, I guess they're still happy to come. It's not as if they do much shopping or eat out in restaurants here normally anyway!

What they say they’re going to do and what they do are not necessarily the same thing. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Just when you think things are going to get back to some semblance of normality something else comes along and puts a spanner in the works.

The Albert Hall is a massive indoor venue it would be one of the first things to go if the shit did hit the fan again for some reason.

Plenty of Dutch caravans at the campsite near here already, from what I’ve seen they’re mostly the blue rinse brigade.

Promised my Dad we would come home to Texas by late September ... if it is still enjoyable, I would love to head over to anywhere in the UK, Ireland or Italy at some point this Summer. Definitely craving a beer garden in Germany too (love Freiburg). This summer I will also enjoy moving about locally more since I haven't really discovered all of the hiking points around Bern, because I was afraid of crowded public transport last Summer.

If all goes well, will definitely be booking our first long stay tropical vacation somewhere in 2022 - Costa Rica perhaps?

Another announcement in this morning's press conference that is relevant to this topic, it was announced that an internationally valid vaccination certificate (in digital and paper form) should be ready to be issued by the Swiss government by "the summer".

Re: Holidays abroad during Covid

Saturday we drove 3 days from coastal Portugal via Biarritz-Clermont-Mulhouse and into the Black Forest, then across into Austria. We saw very few cars at all compared to pre-covid times. Top speed all the way. Only 2 NL campers, but the cars we did see (esp. in France) were piled to the gills! Either people are moving in with M'man, or they are camping out of their cars. The out-of-the-way hotels where we stayed were fully booked.
