There are plenty of stories of tourists who've gotten in trouble, but the real danger lies in doing business there. I made friends with the Frenchman who escaped and then tried to get Latifa out...he has stories to tell, as do we. One of our engineers was arrested at the airport when he flew in to work for us--their very sensitive equipment sensed an invisible amount of weed in the pocket of a jacket he had borrowed. Took us weeks to get him out of jail, and he was deported. As a tourist, most peeps get in trouble for prescription meds they don't realise are on the no-no list.

I once read of someone who got into trouple because they had a sandwich with a poppyseed roll!

Yes, I was going to cite that one too, but I couldn't find a link. Their equipment is very, very sensitive. At the private jet company we used, the police had stationed a guard who watched your every move.

Well, frankly I wasn't thinking of visiting it right now, but I know people who visited it and thought it was interesting. It's a different world. Maybe some other time, who knows.

As I'm not into waiting to see what sort of restrictions pop up again and not yet vaccinated, we'll probably spend spring holiday here. Plenty to do in CH too.

It's not for everyone. We did a stopover there on New Year's a while back. It's a spectacle but we didn't fall in love with it like some people do. We don't plan to go back, Covid or no Covid.

Many people don't care about the crazy rulers of Dubai. Ironically that too seemed sort of "woke" (whatever that means) to me. For a family with kids who have longed for a holiday for the whole year maybe Dubai Parks & Resorts (Legoland Dubai, Legoland Water Park, Motiongate etc etc) doesn't sound that bad. I don't think I can save Princess Latiffa. It's the first time I heard of her anyway, so much far away from these boycotting movements I am. I guess we'll all have to agree to disagree on this thread. Anyways, currently it's out of the question because well....covid-19. It makes everything too complicated and risky. IMO We'll spend spring holiday in CH.

Seriously, any cultural wasteland that wouldn't allow me to hold my husband's hand in public is not my idea of fun, but y'all enjoy now! I always heard Oman is a nice place if Arabic culture & deserts are your thing.

I personally don't know if Arabic culture is my thing, would just like to see if Dubai is my thing! There are quite a few places I'm curious about but never got to visit (work, family, work, studies, family, things to do....there's always something!) - and another thing pandemic has taught me/us is to try not postponing things we really want to do.
Btw, Petra in Jordan is one of them. I'm sure Oman is a nice place but it didn't really get under my radar so to speak. Oh and Israel..again. As soon as possible.

Ironically, since I last posted someone I know just told me that she got COVID in Dubai the week before last. It's now turned into an infection hotspot.

Chuff, I manage my risk. I’ve been abroad 20+ times in the past year, had more tests than I care to think about (last one on Saturday) and am 100% negative.

Just because you’re uncomfortable with it does not make my trip wrong or anrisk.

btw the Swiss restrictions are hardly solid, compare them to our neighbours.
