| | Camping for Ascension weekend
Hi,
We would like to spend the long weekend of ascension in a camping in Switzerland - Ideally by the lake. I am looking for a place for a small motorhome.
However I have been calling campings all morning and no one seems to have a place available. Does anyone have any suggestion on a place where I might have more luck in finding a place?

PM JackieH. She's always carrying on about her meadow that is available for campers.

Can try the TCS website to show you who still have free spots.

They told me they don't let on groups of youths but when we were there, they let on two separate groups who made a massive fire near our tent and kept us awake all night shouting and playing music.
They ended up punching me when I asked them a few times to keep quiet as my kids were trying to sleep. I don't normally take on ten people at once alone but these drunk, steroid-taking twats thought that's fair odds -no wonder they don't take part in any real wars.
You'll probably be alright in a motorhome but I wouldn't camp there with a tent.

After calling 15 campsites and looking at even more websites stating “we are complete” and even calling the TCS that confirmed that only two campsites in Frau Graubunden have still places in the whole Switzerland ... well I have given up.
Thanks for the great advices!

The management changed about a year and a half ago so that might have made a difference and I read in the local paper on Friday that they have plans to improve it.

Other people's milage may vary of course | | | | | Never been there, drove past it many times and I know it fits the lake location criteria.
A couple of places I remember friends staying at which they liked are https://www.tcs.ch/de/camping-reisen...nburgersee.php
And https://www.camping-lelanderon.ch/
Both are near the lakes but I have no personal experience of either of them as I don’t do camping anymore.
Having said that given the weather forecast for next weekend I’m not sure I’d be going anywhere.

When we arrived and pitched our tent there were just a few other tents belonging to families with young children.
The person who seemed to be in charge said they didn't let groups of youths on but he let two separate groups on.
There was absolutely no one in charge in the night which is inexcusable for a campsite of that size.
This has happened to me a few times in Switzerland now but I have camped all over the world and have never experienced the same problem.
Some campsites who do allow groups of youths know they are going to make a lot of noise - no one is expecting them not to but they cater for this by having a separate area for them, a long way from anyone else and they wouldn't dream of putting them in the middle of a group of families.
The worst thing is you usually have to scrap your plans for the next day as both you and your kids are too tired.
The other campsite you listed did mention that they have a separate area for groups and young people which seems a better policy.
We stayed in one a couple of weeks ago in Ticino which had a strict silence policy after 23.00. It was blissfully quiet - just the water flowing in the nearby river and the rustle of leaves with the wind in the trees.

| | Re: Camping for Ascension weekend | Quote: | | | | | What was wrong with it? | | | | | I generally just didn't like the vibe, we camp ~10 times per year so we get around..
A few specifics ..
The highway literally goes over the site.. On one side there is a big field for tents only, no electric etc, just a big field.. Other side is the defined pitches.. So there's no expectation of it ever being properly quiet. The area under the highway had abandoned cars and graffiti and youths hanging around drinking etc.
We had a defined pitch but there's no boundary, after couple of days we had other people sort of in our place and overlapping.
Many of the residential caravans were really run down and derelict, more like a refugee camp than a holiday park.
The toilets were ok but required a electronic tag to get in.
That said, the beach was really nice and just a few minutes walk across the campsite..

I often wondered about that as it is literally under the motorway.
I think they did have a few problems with squatters in some of the caravans a few years back.
As I said I’ve never been but it did fulfil the lakeside location criteria.

Have you tried La Corbière? Not directly on the lake, but was very family friendly a couple of years ago. The youths usually stay down in La Nouvelle Plage.

Thanks everyone for the advices.
Believe it or not all campsites are fully booked for next weekend. I contacted around 50 including farms! No way to find a place!
