| | Drive to Lake Como
Quick get out of town driving trip.
I want to go to Lake Como for this weekend.
I'd drive on Friday and return on Monday.
I'm not getting direct answers in my web searching (at least not consistent)
1) do I need a covid test to enter Italy (remember, I'm driving)
2) do I need to quarantine after entering Italy (remember, I'm driving)
3) do I need a test to enter Switzerland (still driving)
The websites I've read said I need to
A) quarantine 5days when entering Italy (I can't tell if that's for driving or not)
B) Switzerland performs random checks at border for covid test results
You'd think by now I'd be able to figure this out, but sadly I've spent too long this morning trying to and I still have questions.
Extra details: I'm a Swiss resident

Looks like it's easier to fly to Dubai for a few days.

My wife is going tomorrow.
As usual, she will have a fresh PCR, quarantine for 5 days, and do no shopping, as that is forbidden.

P.S. If you can't bullshit your way in reasonably fluent Italian, I wouldn't do it.

It's a big difference, since rapid tests in Switzerland are free, and you can get a document for like 10 francs.
OP, a good authoritative reference is https://infocovid.viaggiaresicuri.it : you compile a questionnaire and get an answer.
Also, if I understand it correctly, if you wait one more day and enter on 16th (or if you travel Saturday late and cross the border after midnight) - you won't need to quarantine

Seems that as of yesterday, incursions of up to 20km into Italy do not need a quarantine (but need a test).

Tom | | | | | Can you share the link for the 20km? That's new to me. According to infocovid.viaggiaresicuri.it if you are coming from Switzerland and you have a negative test, there is no quarantine - period

What's the interpretation of the following?: | Quote: | | | | 1) Exemption from the swab test taken in the 72 hours prior to entry to Italy, from self-isolation and the swab test at the end of self-isolation
Without prejudice to the general conditions above, this exemption applies to the following categories:
anyone who transits, by private vehicle, in Italian territory for a period not exceeding thirty-six hours, with the obligation, at the end of this period of time, to leave Italian territory immediately or, failing this, to begin the period of surveillance and self-isolation in compliance with paragraphs 1 to 5 | | | | | taken from here: salute.gov.it
What is the definition of "transit"? Can one spend the night in a hotel, go to a restaurant and walk around town? As long as one leaves the country within 36 hours, no test or isolation is necessary?
Asking for a friend.

The only thing not clear to me is whether "transit" must imply an origin different from a destination or not (I guess it should? otherwise it would've been just "stays under 36h are test-free")

Will report back. It seems the spirit of the word "transit" would imply something different than a quick overnight in Milano but it's worth a try.
