Well yes, but at my age, lol, can't do trip 8hrs + 2 on UK side, in one go.

So 'gel, pee, wash hands, own clean towel to dry, gel again'
Probably safer than before then.

It wouldn’t just be Covid I’d worry about catching from french loos to be honest, in my experience most of them are fairly disgusting.

Being vaccinated doesn't stop you picking up the Indian variant and bringing it back to Switzerland. All it means is that you're unlikely to become seriously ill.
Recently it was - We all must get the vaccine to protect our grandparents, it's for the greater good, don't be selfish, get the vaccine to protect others .

Now - Well actually the vaccine will only protect you, you can still give it to others around you.. So just get it to protect yourself?

Us vaccinated people can all be spreaders and we'll be fine..

That isn't what the science says.

Up to now the evidence that the vaccines prevent transmission is lacking - not surprisingly because preventing transmission can only be demonstrated after enough people are vaccinated, and not easily in a controlled trial setting.

That evidence is now starting to appear; which is not a surprise, since virtually all other vaccines prevent transmission as well.

The ones at the basic rest areas (without petrol stations, etc) on the A4 between Saverne and Reims are generally OK. I usually stop for a sandwich break at one of those when driving up to Calais or Belgium, the toilets seem to be cleaned regularly. I have actually seen far worse on German motorways.

So if I come back to Switzerland from the UK and I've been vaccinated in Switzerland, do I need to quarantine?

See here:
https://www.eda.admin.ch/countries/u...ronavirus.html and scroll down to "Situation in Switzerland", where it says (with links to further regulations, including about exceptions):

Persons who enter Switzerland from the UK have to present a negative COVID-19 test result and have to fill in a passenger locator form before entering Switzerland.

Travellers who enter Switzerland from the UK have to go into quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.

They have to report their arrival to the relevant cantonal authority within two days.

Travellers also have the possibility to take a second COVID-19 test after seven days of quarantine, which if negative, might release them from quarantine.

We kindly ask you to read the relevant Q&A of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) carefully to find out about the entry restrictions and the exceptions that apply.

and

For more information on the test or quarantine requirement please visit the website of the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH and consult the relevant Q&A.
This latter because the rules are updated every few weeks, sometimes more frequently.

Yes. Because the U.K. is on FOPH list 2 “variants of concern”.

Also worth noting is that one cannot test out of quarantine if one arrives from a country on the list with "variants of concern".

It'll inevitably be the dominant variant here in weeks. Let's enjoy R being less than 1 while we can! Luckily I think it'll hit us too late for it to be a major problem.

Re: Quarantine for Returning UK Travellers

The UK has had some terrible luck in this pandemic.

Firstly, it, rather than any other European country with a similar case rate (inc. France, Italy, Spain) was the source of alpha. That's just chance.

Secondly, it's home made vaccine ended up having (extremely rare) safety issues that made rollout more difficult (refusers, not offering it to under 40s).

Thirdly, India getting hit hard so it stopped exporting vaccine to the UK.

Fourthly, the cause of this second Indian wave being a new variant. With the high levels of Indian origin people in the UK this was always going to mean the UK being hit before other Western European countries. If the variant started in Turkey it would have been Germany before us.

What I have noticed in the UK that most people are wearing masks on public transport except Indians. I got on a train & 15 people in the same carriage only 3 wore masks, I assumed it was not a legal requirement. I want to make it clear that I have nothing against Indians & would happily eat only Indian food.

Re: Quarantine for Returning UK Travellers

The UK‘s problem was not stopping flights from India immediately. Apparently there were trade negotiations underway which the UK government didn‘t want to jeopardise.

BBC Radio reported today that 97% of UK hospital covid admissions are NOT vaccinated...

Does that mean not doubly vaccinated?

Re: Quarantine for Returning UK Travellers

It looks like the only competent place in terms of Covid is Israel. So it's a bit moot. They probably had the right info in the right time, the independence to act fast, a deal with Pfizer so enough vaccines and semi-military allert all the time. Doesn't make other places exactly incompetent. The rest relied on the WHO, me thinks.

The first three I don't see how, but the fourth definitely to some extent (although iirc still 2 days quicker than ch!)

That's deliberate - to sound more like a posh south-eastern Tory. (He's actually from the north east, like myself - we'd never say issue that like that)
