Re: Quarantine for Returning UK Travellers

As i understand the Rules , the Quarantine seems to be mandatory, you have to Register with the authorities of your Canton, after 7 days IT IS possible to Leave the Quarantine with a negative Test.
No word in the Rules about fully vaccinated people.

Re: Quarantine for Returning UK Travellers

Because the UK are now a high risk country, No exemptions
From the Quarantine will BE Made.

They’ve split the high risk country list in two. If you’re on the “scary variant” half of the list (which the U.K. is), then no quarantine and testing exemption for the vaccinated

Monsieur Berset said clearly at the press conference on Wednesday: Even if you are fully vaccinated it doesn't make a difference. You will still have to quarantine if you are coming back from a region, where a new variant is dominant. He even mentioned the UK as an example!

Re: Quarantine for Returning UK Travellers

It has been disscussed in the Corona thread;

Its in this part from the BAG page

No quarantine for those already vaccinated or recovered from COVID

People who have recovered from COVID are exempt from contact and travel quarantine for a period of six months. Given that people who have been vaccinated cannot transmit the virus to a relevant extent, they too are now exempt from contact and travel quarantine for a period of six months, as well as from the requirement to be tested and provide contact details on arrival in Switzerland, as long as they have been fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved in Switzerland or by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). People under the age of 16 are also exempt from travel quarantine and the requirement to be tested on arrival in Switzerland. The exemptions from travel quarantine and the requirement to be tested do not apply to people who have been vaccinated or who have recovered from COVID arriving from countries with virus variants of significant concern.

Just because you've been vaccinated doesn't mean you can no longer get covid. You can catch it and pass it on which is why you still need to follow the social distancing rules and any others that are brought in like quarantining when returning from a risk country.

People can't even agree on what should be a set in stone fact. If any evidence was needed that this nothing more than a forum of varying opinion

So I guess we should just close borders and shut everything down forever ... studies have clearly shown that vaccinations hinder the spread of the virus and are strong against all current variants. This is just getting to be ridiculous ...

I have some close friends visiting their families in the UK right now and they feel a lot safer there than in Switzerland. They have their vaccines booked in Zurich in a couple of weeks and it seems they won't even be allowed to go to their appointments now.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines continue to remain effective against all known variants.

The same may also be said for AZ, albeit reduced in some cases, Pfizer appears to be the better of the two, but AZ is still 60% (for some reason I have this as the threshold for a vaccine to be considered effective?)

Anyway, this highlights a significant issue with the entire situation. If the current vaccines aren't deemed effective to return life to semi-normality e.g. not having to quarantine! then for those who are fit, healthy and of low-risk, where is the motivation to actually take the vaccine in the first place?

My gut feeling is that this bodes badly for Europe and the USA which have seen cases of the Indian variant. Taking the UK's situation, high vaccine roll-out, measures such as social distancing, self-isolation, mask wearing and it has still spread like wildfire to become the dominant strain (estimates say up to 75% of new cases).

Now look at what happened with the Kent variant, it eventually became dominant in Europe. I struggle to see how the same will not happen again with the Indian variant - it has even made it's way into Australia, with one of the tightest entry procedures in the world.

Edit to add - The UK have a huge genomic sequencing capacity, bettered only by Denmark (which also incidentally have the 4th highest rate of Indian variant in Europe, who would believe that the more time you spend looking for something, the more you find )

Your statement in bold is quite frustrating ...

The vaccines are very effective, enough people simply haven't been vaccinated yet in Switzerland ... which is why we need to encourage as many people as possible to take it now that appointments are opening up.

The Indian variant is spreading among the Asian community in the UK because many of them are not vaccinated, here's some more info on that:
