[Zurich] Astronomy amateurs?

Hi,

I will be arriving tu Zurich by the end of October, and I was wondering if there is an astronomy club/society, or if that's not the case, people who may be interested and gather and some days and make some observations, talks etc...
I think its a nice chance to meet other people whilst sharing this hobby!

Best!

Christian

AGUZ (Astronomic Society Urania Zurich) is linked to the Urania observatory in the city.

There are two other clubs in the canton.
AGZO (Astronomic Society Zurich Highlands) is based in the Eastern region of the canton
AGZU (Astronomic Society Zurich Lowlands) covers the Northern part of the canton.

The Swiss Astronomic Society provides a list of Swiss astronomy clubs here.

I realize this is an old old old old old old thread, but I'm wondering the same thing myself. Well, not the club thing. But rather this:

Any EF member a backyard astronomer/amateur astronomer/stargazer/astrophotographer ?

I'm moving back to Switzerland after a 1.5yr impasse in California, and I'm bringing my telescopes with me. One of them a beautiful 12" Dob. Wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing this wonderful hobby, watch some faint fuzzies, doubles, maybe even try to do a half Messier marathon next summer.

Going back to the same town I used to live in, Buchs, SG. By the eastern border with Liechtenstein. I hope, weather permitting, the skies in Wildhaus (some 5km up the hill) will be pretty dark.

Hi,

I am living in Zürich and very much interested in Astrophotography.
Is there any EF members doing any astrophoto activity ?

Regards,

Romain.

Yes ! But it's hard without a car and a guiding mount. Just have a tripod and dslr + lens ^^
Balcony shots are not very nice...

I have a regular equipment. But I would just do some observation in a dark place

What kind of equipment do you have ? Do you have a car as well ?
Would be cool to plan a session, even though the weather is not perfect yet.

I don't own a telescope. I just have my dslr and tripod and try to do the best I can with that :).
I'm planning on buying an equatorial mount though to have longer exposure.

Hello, I am also interested in astronomy, astrophotography and plain easy stargazing, if someone here wants to get together I will be more than happy to plan something. I have a telescope.

Sorry to bump this thread back to life after a year, but I too have an interest in astronomy. Though I don't see many face to face gatherings happening anytime soon, I would like to connect with a local group near Sargans or Buchs.

As far as observing sites go, our house is surrounded by trees, so its not an ideal location. Rather, I may head up the mountain to my in-laws.

My gear arrives in ~2 weeks.

Thank you,

https://www.mirasteilas.net is having an astronomy day and is reasonably close. I will look into pitching a tent. I hope to be doing some imaging, so I will inquire about that too.

FWIW, I have not been out to look at comet Neowise yet. It's supposed to be in the NW after sunset, and its nearly circumpolar. I have not checked to see how this translates to my new location, but I bet it will be clipped by the mountains to the NW in the early evening.

Here is a composite picture made from a Pizol webcam. The comet does not set.
