Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

I'm taking a group of 16 people to Barcelona on Thursday, March 19. We'll be flying with Swiss and departing at 7.20 in the morning.

Because we all booked separately, we won't be doing a group check-in.

How early should we arrive at the airport? Is 5.45 too early?

Looking for some good advice. Thanks!

No it is not to early i would recommend 2 hours before departure to make sure everyone is together and can catch the flight together

Re: Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

With so many people checking in separately, I would say that is cutting it
close. I would suggest checking with the airline to see when the
check-in desk opens. Then plan to be there then. If you are running late,
then there should be no problem.

The transfer time from the check-in desks to the gate (probably terminal
E) takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many
peoples are traveling on that day.

Another angle... how about checking in the evening before. Some
airlines allow it, check in at the airport or even at one of the larger main
train stations (possible even in Buchs SG, no problem).

Re: Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

Thanks to all. I'm hoping everyone will do on-line check-in the night before but I know that's no guarantee that the final check-in will go faster at the airport.

Re: Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

When I travel alone, I never get to Kloten more than 60 min early, as the airport is so easy to use. However, I have status on Swiss, and can check in using the Elite line just above the train. I know where I am going, so it is easy.

If your 16 travelers do not have status, do not know the airport or are not frequent travelers, I would recommend checking in the night before or about 2 hrs early. Since it is a group trip, if someone does not make it, the trip is ruined for them...so getting there early is the only way to insure a smooth trip. Chances are that everything will go smoothly, but if not, you have a buffer.

If you all have time to kill, you can always hit the bar early!!

Have fun...

Re: Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

I took a 7:25 flight on Swiss on Wednesday and the check-in counters were pretty empty and I was there one hour early. You can also use the automatic machines to check-in. 5:45 should be more than enough time to check-in, even if there are 16 of you.

Re: Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

Thanks again for your replies. I've travelled with this group many times and they are all reliable and have travelled frequently. I'll leave the 5.45 time as it is.

Re: Arrival at Kloten: how early before flight?

Kloten is a bit of a nightmare at the moment, old signs still point you in the wrong direction and security is slow. I would get the group together as early as poss or at least suggest a meeting point airside for 6am.

edit: Also flew Zurich to Barca recently and the views over Switz are fantastic, could easily pick out Brunnen and down the lake to Fluelen then Interlaken and down past Mont Blanc. Further down there are lovely views over Marseille and the Gulf du Lyon then a swing over the Med and a distant view of the Balearics if its clear (ps I was sat on the left of the aircraft so if you are on the right this would make no sense at all!!!)

This was last month, a lot of redesign/refurb has gone on, I was going through transfer and it was very confusing. May well be sorted now but I nearly missed my connection.
