Hotel recommendation for central Zurich?

My fiancee is coming to Zurich for my last weekend here before I leave, and I would like to find a nice, reasonably priced (around 200/night) hotel in central Zurich with tasteful rooms and great service. Trip Advisor has some good recommendations, but I'd like to hear any suggestions from the local crowd if there's anything you would especially recommend.

Thanks!

Re: Hotel recommendation for central Zurich?

Hotel Krone Unterstrass on Schaffhauserstrasse (http://www.hotel-krone.ch) isn't directly in the centre of town - it's two tram stops from Central - but has recently renovated its rooms to a very comfortable and modern standard. I've used it when having visitors several times and, as a former travel guide, am impressed with the rooms and especially the staff. Not much in the way of facilities but who needs 5 star? It'll be as romantic as you make it.

Prices around CHF150 inc. breakfast. But go without and eat out for brekkers and save CHF20 or so. Always negotiate hotel room prices, especially if you can spin some romantic yarn such as yours to the receptionist

But if you really wanna impress, go to the Widder...£££££, it's beautiful.

I'm not sure how romantic it is, but when we have visitors for work they like the Helmhaus because it's cozy and more personal than the big hotels but still has good service. We get a corporate rate of - I think - about 200 a night, but I agree with Max: spin your yarn and see what they can do for you!

My company has put people in the Romantik Hotel Florhof and I've always heard good feedback. Not right in the center but close to the Kunsthaus and a short walk up from the Niederdorf.

Oh yes, the Florhof is very nice. Romantic meanderings through Marktplatz after a good meal on the way back to the room. Nice. Go there if the budget fits!

Re: Hotel recommendation for central Zurich?

I stayed at Hotel Basilea before. It's nothing special but it is very central (Niederdorf), clean with comfortable beds and a pretty good breakfast buffet.. The price was reasonable for Zürich. I'd definitely recommend it.
Cheers,

for a last weekend, I'd consider something like the Widder. I frankly think 200 will leave you "short" though.....

Anyone stayed at "Zum Storchen" ? I've always fancied the idea, but never had reason to...

Re: Hotel recommendation for central Zurich?

Thanks everyone. I ended up going with Helmhaus. Widder may be the best but we're talking two nights at a hotel, not a cruise.
