Accommodation in Davos
Any tips on cheap hotels in Davos? I would like something that's not too far from the pists (i.e. I don't want to have to take the train to get to the lifts).

A bit out of the ordinary is the Nun's hotel. The accomodation is a bit basic, but the breakfast is hearty and its very cheap for its location. Its about 100m of the ring road, so you walk down and get the bus to Parsenn. I cant remember the name, but if you're interested I'll dig it out.

You may also want to look into staying in Klosters. It's a bit cheaper than Davos, and there is a cable-car connected to the ski area that goes from right behind the Klosters train station, close to all of the hotels there. We stayed in the youth hostel in Klosters for a super-cheap price, but there are many options there with a bit more class and luxury.

Re: Accommodation in Davos
I can very much recommend the hotel Terminus, opposite the bahnhof in Davos-Platz. Although part of the Best Western chain, this hotel has an authentic feel. It offers good value for money, has 2 local restaurants under its roof; one with Graubundner specialities and one for cheesefondue and raclette in particular. And the hotel has a nice bar and a good Finnish sauna.

It's very close, about a 3 min walk, to the gondola of the Jakobshorn, so ideally located to go skiing/boarding in the Jakobshorn area. And at the end of the day, perfectly located for apres-ski at the Bolgen.

I also know one place where you'd better not stay -- hotel Strela in Davos. It was our only option, as the rest of Dvaos was fully booked (2 weeks ago). First of all, it's far from any lift, so you1d have to take the skibus in the morning to Parsenn or Jakobshorn. The interior dates back to the seventees. So expect furniture from the seventees, a completely brown bathroom, a 10" first generation colour TV and a small room in general. The breakfast buffet is far from complete -- if you'll ask for a cappuccino they look at you as if you come from Mars. No bacon and eggs for breakfast either. Moreover, the skiroom has no heated pins to dry the skiboots. This was much more expensive than Terminus. The website itself is probably the best part of this hotel..that's what lures people in (and sheer lack of availability of any other place to stay in high-season).:D
