Bürgenstock Day trip

I just went to Bürgenstock in Vierwaldstättersee, Luzern and its really amazing. Its also not expensive too for 32chf (half-fare) that includes boat ride, train ride to go up the mountain and a lift to take you to the highest peak. The views up there are spectacular!!!!!

You can make a bit more of a day of it by starting in Stansstad, walking along the path by the edge of the lake to the funicular railway (there are several places to eat and drink along the way and there's also an underground bunker museum).
Then, take the funicular up to the plateau, go up the lift and walk back down to the top of the funicular.

Take this back down to the lake and get a boat back to Stansstad.

Wow that would have been nice! But also a bit too much for me. I was already tired just walking 25mins to go to the Hammetschwandlift Well you have to be fit to do all of these in 1 day.

Re: Bürgenstock Day trip

I did this last week. It was certainly worth the trip despite the not very special weather at the time. As mentioned, spectacular views. It was sunny at first but light showers developed. I got some great picures looking down on a double rainbow across the lake to Rigi.

If you visit, don't forget to factor in the 25 minute walk from the funicular to the lift.

Re: Bürgenstock Day trip

I did this today; would well recommend it. I was also hoping to do Pilatus since it is another ferry stop away but couldn't manage to do so. Note that the last ferry leaves at 5 which even now is almost a couple of hour before sunset which probably makes covering both difficult unless you start really early.

The Hammetschwandlift was a tad underwhelming though.

Re: Bürgenstock Day trip

Hiking up Pilatus is a blast, it will take you around 4 hours if you're reasonably fit taking the Alpnachstad to Esel (Pilatus Kulm) route. You can either hike back down or take the cog railway. The first section is pretty much in the woods, but after the treeline you get great views of Lake Lucerne and the peaks around it.

In the big scheme of things, the actual lift joiurney is a minor part. It is a really impressive looking structure. I agree, that as a trip, it is well worth doing.

Re: Bürgenstock Day trip

What a spectacular combination: arrive by boat in Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock and climb aboard the red carriages. It takes little more than seven minutes of blissful ascent for the horizon to progressively broaden

Here are the fares for winter up to April 17th, 2011.

Re: Bürgenstock Day trip

My wife and I had a nice walk on the Bürgenstock in July, though it was a cool misty day. Lots of pictures available!

The caption for the second one is:
What's that vise doing there?
It serves no function; it's an idle vise.
