| | AFL Grand Final
Hi,
Does anyone know a place showing the AFL Grand Final in or around Basel. I gather there are normally a few venues in Geneva that put on the game, but something a little closer would be better. Although, if Geneva is the place to be, then its the place!
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris
Every year this question seems to come up on the 'Aussies Abroad' forum. I don't quite know the exact answer but it gets shown at one of those pubs in Zürich with an English name like David Copperfield or Mr Something, Mr Pickwick???!. Sorry, that's not really an answer at all. Are you a member of Aussies Abroad? Maybe ask there!
Good luck and come on the West Coast Eagles, hee hee.
Andrea

Hi,
Another Swans supporter in Basel here.
My first three years living in Europe (about 4-5 hours north of here in Germany), I travelled to Amsterdam and twice to England to a friend's house to watch the GF live. The last two times involved the Swans of course - one happy, one sad.
Getting up at 6am (5am in England) and getting drunk is fun when your team's in the match, or for the first time away from home. But I haven't been able to summon the courage to do it since then.
Good luck finding somewhere here to open up so early and serve obnoxious Australians beer! I don't know of anywhere in Basel that has it, but I haven't really looked.

Glad the swans aren't there cause it would be boring as hell :P
I'm new to Zurich (in about 4 days) and I'll be trying to find a place to watch the grandy on saturday morning. Is it at the Australian pub in Zurich or somewhere else? Should be a great game. Watched saints bulldogs last night and it was a cracker.
Next year I will be getting all eagles games and a few extras each week from my mates in Perth. Anyone keen to watch you're always welcome |

I watched the 2007 grand final against geelong at the pickwicks pub in the zurich old town.It ended up in tears but oh well. They serve a nice english breakfast with it as well.I love footy in general and i love going to footy matches but here, i just cant find enough footy lovers.Wonder if we can find enough footy lovers to have a causal footy chat or even footy games (next season).Problem is the time zone. They will never play matches starting 2.40 pm AEST cause thats like 6 am here.Only the grand finals and that even by request!

I've been a west coast member since 1987 so its going to be a little strange not seeing the boys play over the next few years
Saturday night games should be on around midday (assuming the 6 hr difference in zurich summer) so hopefully pickwicks or anyother pub might have those games live. But yeah, love to get a group and have a yarn about the footy next season. I will be at the pub for the grand final so if anyone is keen let us know

Saints supporter here (and a very excited one at that) also in Basel but I'm off to watch it at the Aussie bar in Munich, and then on to Oktoberfest...
However, I've heard they will have it at Paddy's and Mr. Pickwick's, you just need to call them and ask. There's probably enough Aussies in Basel for them to warrant having it on (and they'd definitely have it on)!
GO SAINTS!!

There was mention of the game being on in Geneva... does anyone know where?
I'm in Geneva for a few days working, but have Saturday off, and am more than willing to get up at whatever hour to watch it somewhere. Surely there are enough ex-pats in Geneva to warrant a pub opening somewhere?

Mr Pickwicks in Zurich is showing the AFL GF live at sparrows fart. http://www.pickwick.ch/zuerich/index.php
After witnessing my beloved West Perth get beaten by East Perth at Leedy last month, I think I've had my fill of footy this year |

Sounds like something to get up for! I've been a quiet Saints supporter for years ... part of growing up in Sydney, where for years following AFL at all was a bit suspect, and then not following the Swans was seen as even worse by many ... but then I have some good friends in the Sydney Collingwood Supporters Club who've helped me survive.
Was a bit of a shock to me seeing the Saints get into the final this year! Didn't help that I was a bit 'disconnected' since it was my first year over here ...
