Re: Shopping in Konstanz, Germany

Lago is open this Sunday from 13:00 to 18:00 https://www.lago-konstanz.de/en/opening-hours.html

But tax refund office at train station does not look like open. Is there any other option ?

Does anyone know if there is a butcher in Konstanz selling game such as pheasant?

Thanks
We have got UK pheasant from Kaufland, in their freezer. There is an area that sells game, though maybe seasonal or just if they have in stock

I do know the above is an old post, but did not see reply before

Walk back into Switzerland, get your forms stamped at the Emmishofer Tor customs office and take the train from Kreuzlingen.

Re: Shopping in Konstanz, Germany

Blick reported today on some statistics from the German Customs, in 2015 they stamped 17.6 million VAT forms that Swiss use to claim back their German VAT.

That is double the 2010 number and 12% up on 2014.

It would be interesting to know why this significant change. Anyway, queuing to have those forms stamped is annoying. I wonder how much people really save up, for us it's just not worth it.

According to the article I quoted; the smallest form stamped by the Customs was for 10 cents - giving a VAT return of one cent

Absolutely ridiculous.
Guess there were only a few similar cases though (otherwise is pure craziness).

Re: Shopping in Konstanz, Germany

hi all
it's swiss national day this coming Monday 1st Aug. The shops in Konstanz are open, however, will the tax refund / customs offices be open to put the stamp on the forms?

Re: Shopping in Konstanz, Germany

It's not a holiday in Germany, so yes the German customs will still be open to stamp the forms.

sorry should have been more specific - what if I buy something for 400chf (eg over the free tax limit. usually I have to go across the room to the CH customs to pay the import taxes so I can get the german taxes back. Will the CH customs be open?

Re: Shopping in Konstanz, Germany

Not sure, but I believe if they're shut you're meant to put the receipt and a completed form (which they leave out) in a postbox for them to bill you and post stuff back to you.

How does this work in practice? Will I still get the german taxes back (presumably the german side will stamp without the need showing CH taxes paid if over the import limit?

Re: Shopping in Konstanz, Germany

Getting the German tax refunded is not dependent on paying any Swiss taxes.
