No more Ryanair flights in Switzerland??

Is it my imagination or they have removed Switzerland flights?

It was perfect for my short trips, not the best service ever but good for last minute fligths and cheap..

Does anyone know any other similar company apart from easyjet?

bmibaby fly to the Midlands, and flybabu go to various holiday destinations (such as Cyprus).

I can't think of any more off the top of my head.

Re: No more Ryanair flights in Switzerland??

Ryanair provoked some debate:

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo....main/4556902/

And keep scrolling until Post 99

"It seems that FR retires from BSL by December 2nd. They will stop all 18 weekly flights. FR wanted to get cheaper taxes from the airport but BSL refused.
http://www.nzz.ch/nachrichten/wirtsc...1.3997005.html (in German)

"

Later on in the Thread, it seems Easyjet will take advantage of this move by Ryanair:

"easyJet today announced that it will base a 9th aircraft in Geneva and a 5th aircraft in Basel.

The airline will generate an additional 250 000 passengers p.a. in Basel and is compensating easily the 160 000 Ryanair passengers.

New destinations will be announced in the coming weeks"

Enjoy!

Or even better, help pay my Salary by signing up for the Weekly Last Minute offers

Cheers,

Re: No more Ryanair flights in Switzerland??

Never used Ryanair; but I used EJ a couple of times to go to Liverpool before Swiss reinstated the Manchester flights. My last experience of EJ was having to stand for 2 hours in a check-in queue with a 4 month old baby in tow because the EJ check-in computers had gone down and the staff had not been trained in any manual process.

In the end I chose to try and book Swiss far enough ahead that they weren't a lot more than EJ. For me the purpose of the low-cost airlines is to provide competition thus keeping the likes of Swiss on their toes.

One beef I have with Swiss is this business with the Airtrain option where you fly from Manchester to Basel via Zürich - and the Zürich to Basel part is simply the train. I have a GA and Mrs Nickatbasel has a halbtax yet there was no way to get a reduction on the train portion of the journey. Also, if you tried to book a flight to Zürich only, the price magically increases by SFr100.

Cheers,
Nick

I saw the other day that Fly Baboo will be flying to Oxford and are already flying to London City airport.

Re: No more Ryanair flights in Switzerland??

Oh good to know I don't have partial lost of memory

Maybe destiny wanted to stop me from using them again.. I have flown with them only twice, but the second time reminded me of why I hated it the first time. It was a total nightmare just like out of a movie, those moments when you just want to sit and cry, and not to mention that what I saved on the ticket I had to pay it on an EUR 40 fine for not printing my boarding pass, a coach bus, a taxi, luggage and the list goes on, so at the end it is not that cheap.

Nick I also had a bad experience with EJ, a 'little misunderstood' made me leave behind a 20k luggage, but I was so mad that I didn't wan't to pay one more pence for extra weigth.

Anyway, thanks for the sugestions, will compare flybaboo, bmi baby and swiss, and see what works best for me, or if EJ is really adding more fligths and put some effort to improve their services I will give them a second thought, (yes I know, I'm a masochist sometimes)..

Tschüüs

Re: No more Ryanair flights in Switzerland??

just checked out this company... they have a lot of great destinations from Geneva but Bucharest is the only destination from Zurich. how frustrating!

the Oxford flights would have been quite practical.

You could take Aerlingus, which is still owned partly by Ryanair from Zurich to London Gatwick, this airline has some what changed to a low cost carrier operating out of Zurich
