Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

I found that you can fly Swiss from London to Dubai (via ZRH) for 335 GBP, however if you want to drop the London legs and fly direct from Zurich the price is exactly double.... why is that?

Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

Sorry Castro, this may sound a bit long winded and you may be a bit tired of the all the flying and might loose your suitcase on the way

But how about Air Lingus from ZRH to LGW for around 20GBP plus taxes and then Swiss to Dubai via Zurich, on the way back over you could probably wave at your place from the plane.

because pricing of airline tickets has everything to do with the airline's cost and logic, and nothing to do with the passenger's logic

Hmmm.. that would be a bit of a trek BSL > ZRH > LGW > LHR > ZRH > DXB

An alternative would actually be Qatar Air.
Evening EasyJet BSL > LGW and then Qatar Air LGW > DXB (via Doha) the following morning. To be on the safe side I would probably stay the night in a Gatwick hotel so I can guarantee I make the morning flight to Dubai.

Royal Brunei have a cracking deal for anyone in the UK, London Heathrow to Dubai (direct) for 268 pounds. I'd go for it, but I prefer the Qatar timings + I have the option of a longer layover in Doha on the return leg for a spot of sight seeing.

Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

Flights Now Booked with Emirates flying from Frankfurt. Emirates have an agreement with Deutsch Bahn where you get complimentary rail tickets from anywhere in Germany (e.g. Basel Badischer Bahnhof ) to the airport. So its 2:45 hours on the ICE upto Frankfurt and then connect with an Emirates flight to Muscat (6 day stopover in Dubai).

Its €360 to Muscat and the stopover in Dubai is free. I have to say the Emirates booking engine is one of the best I've seen on any airline website... and I've seen a few

Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

If you have the possiblity take out an emirates membership it is worthwhile, I took this membership and one year I was given a free upgrade to Business class because the flight was overbooked, also it has great offers for hotels and car hire.

Well, someone has to pay for the new tallest building in the world....you may contribute with a high price of a ticket.

Enjoy your visit

Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

Because Dubai is a major hub as well as a tourist destination, prices will vary a lot more than other long haul destinations e.g. during the South Africa world cup prices to Dubai are a lot more expensive only becuase people are using it to get to SA.

Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

Hoi, When in the Emirates ... an absolute MUST is a Desert Trip! You can book with most any hotels .... cost is about 60 Durhams (+-12 Euro) only! You get taken out in a fancy 4x drive, on a wild drive thru the desert - stop for some sand-boarding down the dunes - then on to the deseert Arabian Camp ..... where EVERYTHING is included in the price of the trip .......Camel rides.......a huge wonderful authentic Arabian Dinner, you sit on cushions at ground height tables ....flares all around the Persian carpet dance floor in the middle ... they play Arabic Disco music for the public to dance to ... and the finale is a Belly Dance demonstration.... with audience participation. All drinks are free too, except alcohol.... which they keep pumping the public to buy ... "buy one get one free"!

There`s stalls to buy exotic clothing (the only things for actual sale) ......

The trip begins at 3pm .... and ends at about 9.30pm when you get delivered back to your hotel, or wherever you staying. Our driver took us back to our house in the suburbs of Al Ain.

Beside relig. tourism, I don't see any reason to visit there.
Though it may have nice natural places to see, but there are much better places if you are into desserts, see sides, sand dunes,.... so why should one choose Suadi?

Re: Dubai - Good time to go?

At the moment over Easter period the cheapest flight I can see it around 700to800sfr whilst Swiss and Emirates come out at 1200to1300sfr, I was wondering what Ataturk Airport is like? since you would have to change flights there, I am a bit worried about losing lugguage

You can fly from Frankfurt to DXB with Emirates for 570 in April. That includes a 2nd class return railfare from Basel Bad Bahnhof to Frankfurt Airport.
