Zurich - Austria Railjet offers

I notice that SBB are currently offering tickets for the Railjet train from Zurich to Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna from CHF33 one way.

This offer is until 14th March. Journey time is 8 hours to Vienna (1440 until 2240). This compares with over 11 hours on some of the other rail routes and is comparable with driving time.

Has anyone tried the Railjet train yet?

Re: Zurich - Austria Railjet offers

Smooth and comfortable ride - hardly noticed the speed except when looking at the information screen - train picks up speed outside Sargans / Buchs SG ( took it enroute to Wien ).

Re: Zurich - Austria Railjet offers

I took a ride today as well ZRH to Sargans.

The prices in the bistro were quite affordable. They even gave a free welcome pack ( KitKat, Fruit juice and Face Towels ).

Average speed 120km/h, top speed in that journey was 155 km/h.

Re: Zurich - Austria Railjet offers

I did once the trip from zurich to vienna with the railjet:
The annoucements after every station are relly annoying(when you sit more then 8 hours in the same train), arrival in vienna was 60 mins later behind
schedule.
The TGV is much better and got a max. speed of 320km/h(from Strasbourg
to Paris).

Re: Zurich - Austria Railjet offers

The problem in CH is that there are many bends, and thus limits the speed of the loco, but outside CH, Trenitalia, TGV / SNCF and ICE almost double their speeds.

The railjet is currently limited to a max speed of 200 km/h .
In the future it it be a bit faster at 230 km/h.
