Where to see edelweiss?

Hello,

Just wondering where to go to see edelweiss in the wild, and exactly what time of year? I'm in St Gallen kanton.

Thanks,
Ange

Well, sorry to disappoint you but i don't believe there's a place to see them in the wild. They grow where they please.
You might see them or you might not. But outside the wild there are many places with flowers collections where you could see them i think, but sadly now i can't find any link. If i do find something of some Vivarium i'll pm you with the place.

I know a place but im not posting it on here as some one will be bound to go and snaffle it. Im in Canton St G also. Email me privately, persuade me that you wont steal it and I may tell you where to find it.

Re: Where to see edelweiss?

There are tons of places high in the Alps, but you need to be patient and walks for miles!!! More so, the road less travelled.
Happy hunting.
P.S. you can also buy them in packages and grow your own.

Go to the Swiss National Park, bring a lump of cheese and an apple and get hiking. It's a beautiful place. Edelweiss like the sun, so find the sunniest scree fields. They're also wonderfully camoflaged, so keep your eyes peeled.

Re: Where to see edelweiss?

For those who don't know what to look for, I have x5 plants in my garden in the UK! Pesky things to grow, they keep dieing off in winter.

Re: Where to see edelweiss?

A quick note for anyone looking for their home garden, Coop has edelweiss plants right now (in Zug anyway...).
