Liechtenstein -- Need recommendations

Interested in visiting Liechtenstein for the day next weekend. Any interesting things to see or do? I did a search & did not find a single thread on this tiny country....? Perhaps that's my answer already?

Re: Liechtenstein -- Need recommendations

We've been there a few times to visit friends - it ain't that big. Our friends suggested that we keep on driving and visit Austria for shopping.

There's not a lot going on, especially at weekends and it is small. Head to Vaduz and visit the museum which is really nice, the modern art gallery and then up the hill to the castle. There's a few nice restaurants in town and further up the road in Schaan.

Just to the south of Liechtenstein and round the corner heading east there is Meinfelden which makes some really nice wines. Some wineries are open Saturdays to try and buy.

But basically, almost everything in this neck of the woods is small and sleepy!

Re: Liechtenstein -- Need recommendations

We went to Liechtenstein and caught the bus up to Malbun - and saw the 'donkey racing' - it was very....interesting....hmmm...

Here's a list of the 'top 25' - actually, it's probably a case of 'the only 25 things' http://www.tourismus.li/en/navpage.c...linLI&id=47707

My advice would be to do a 'round trip' and go and see Bad Ragaz / Pizol / Heidiland /Chur...http://www.heidiland.com/de/welcome.cfm

and there is a mining museum to see at Sargans - http://www.bergwerk-gonzen.ch/

There are interesting sculptures placed around Vaduz and one of the best pizza's I've ever had can be found there:

Pizza-Bar Potenza
Herrengasse 9
open M-S 1000-2200

They only do pizza's nothing else.

In my opinion, 3 hours is all you need in Liechtenstein. See the castle and visit the new art museum. Maybe visit a wineyard. And then keep going to Feldkirch or Bregenz, both in Austria.

Yes, Feldkirch is nice with a small but quaint old quarter (do some cheap shopping while you're there)

Re: Liechtenstein -- Need recommendations

I spend quite a lot of time in Liechtenstein and I can see what people are saying here. It's quiet and sleepy, but a lovely place. However, if you are not in a rush, FL has plenty to offer.

Malbun is a nice ski resort (of course nearing its closure for the season), while the Fürstenfest on August 15th is a great party. For a day trip, I'd recommend taking the train to Sargans, hopping on one of their ugly fluorescent buses, and taking in the surrounds (Feldkirch +1 vote) and take the chance to tell people you've visited 3 countries within a few minutes! When you hit Vaduz, be sure to take in the Kunstmuseum and bask in the awe of the public art (I have never seen so many sculptures on one street!)

Incidentally, you can have your passport stamped in the tourist office in Vaduz. Much as this sounds like a nice idea, beware that it unfortunately says "tourist office" on the stamp - while it's legal, it could end up looking a bit odd in your passport for the next ten years...

p.s. my post has been audited by a Liechtensteiner who is in approval of my ramblings
