| | where to go hiking when pregnant?
Hi
I love to go hiking in switzerland in summer. I am planning to go this year as well. However I am pregnant and I will be 6 months when I will take my holidays. Any suggestions regarding relaxing tour in the mountains, not too steep hiking area, where I could go walking for few hours?
thanks a lot
Sally

The veloroute from Romanshorn to Lake Genava is the flattest of the routes in CH. I did this 4 years ago. (3.5 days on a 200chf Jumbo bike)Many sbb trains link up with this route. It went through some really nice countryside (off the beaten track). Most of it was flat or gently rolling hills - usually near the rivers in valley bottoms - you can make little detours off this for hiking and do as little or as much as you wanted. At 6 months pregnant, I am not sure how far you would want to do in a day.

Try taking the train up the cheese run first stage and walking down. It takes a couple of hours, restaurants on the way down. Nice mountain scenary http://www.chaeserrugg.ch/index.php | This user would like to thank telandy for this useful post: | |

Last summer, we had to find some hikes appropriate for each set of parents while they visited. I expect that your requirements might be similar to theirs. We found a couple of nice hikes in the Vaudoise Alps, one started from the town of Les Diablerets and went up to Bretaye (above Villars), but there was one longish steepish section near the start of that one, and the other was around the Col des Mosses mountain pass region, from La Lecherette to Lac Lioson. It's a bit of a way from Basel, but that region might be worth taking a trip to because there is some suitable terrain with lovely, although not spectacular, scenery.

Around Chateau d'Oex is also good, I did some nices walks around there when I was 7 months pregnant. We camped in the camp site there which had a great pool. The walking was hard work and I had to go really slow and get my breath back every few steps! I think the heat made a big difference and the parts of the walk through wooded ares where the route was shaded were alot easier - also more cover every time you need a pee!

From Zurich Zoo / Dolder area you can walk through lovely forests to the Pfannenstiel. There you'll find a restaurant and observation tower, looking over the lake and mountains. Also very nice in winter.
You'd be walking along a ridge the whole way which affords great views without the exertion. No WC's / restaurants en route and it takes about 4 hours at a moderate pace, stopping for picnics etc. There's a lovely nature reserve 10 minutes below the Pfannenstiel, where you won't meet a soul. Orchids, butterflies, ponds, deer etc. Very tranquil for a snooze in the grass...

A very easy path starts on top of the Flumserberg, the Maschgenkamm.
First hike around the Ziger (Ziger-Rundspazierweg), a very easy 40 minutes hike. Back to Maschgenkamm, walks along the Heidis Alpenblumen Trail (flower trail) to the Prodchamm (another 40 minutes).
You get wonderful views and there are 3 restaurants on the way.
Cable cars to Maschgenkamm and Prodchamm - just see map and details here: http://www.flumserberg.ch/sommer/de/...ebote/wandern/ |

The Crans-Montana area is great if you want to be in the mountains yet on the flat, which is quite unusual!? It's on a high plateau, so all the resort is actually flat and you can walk between the lakes etc and higher up there are lots of 'bisses' - irrigation canals - which have lovely walking paths alongside, and are all pretty much on the flat! Good luck with your pregnancy and enjoy every minute of the holidays!!

There are a great variety of hikes around the Bettmeralp area.
You can take a cable car from Morel, Betten Talstation or Fiesch on the rail line from Brig. The area from Riederalp through Bettmeralp to Fiescheralp is all pretty level. Around here you are never far away from facilities yet it also has the feeling of remoteness, particularly because the villages are generally traffic free apart from a few electric vehicles.
If you are feeling up to it, you could take a cable car up to Hohfluh, Moosfluh, Bettmerhorn or Eggishorn for wonderful views of the Aletsch Glacier. This is more exposed with views as far as the Matterhorn http://www.bettmeralp.ch/pdf/sommerinfo_ei.pdf
