I am looking for an affordable accommodation to spend just a night in the Vevey, Montreux area and was wondering if there were any good places that do not charge an arm and a leg for a simple double room with breakfast.

I am very content with B&Bs, homestay accommodations, inns or hostels, not necessarily on the lakeside with a breathtaking view (those would be justifiably more expensive), but I am surprised to see that there seems to be so few, or maybe I'm not searching properly.

I checked a couple of web sites (www.bnb.ch etc.), and interestingly B&B, "gîtes" or "chambre d'hôtes" there seemed to refer more to apartments and chalets that one rents for long vacations rather than places for overnight stays.

Tips, advice?

The Vaud local tourism offices have now a common tool on their website that allows you to search all the b&b offers (and appartments as well). Just enter your criteria (you can choose up to 15 criteria) and the search engine works for you. Have a try with Montreux/Vevey. B&B listed as well:
