Cell phone options

Hi,

I've been trying to do some research before I move to Geneva in March. I have US Verizon Plan for my Blackberry. Am I able to buy a new SIM card while I'm living in Switzerland?

I'm not exactly sure how all of it works.

My other option would be to buy a cheaper cell phone plan when I move.

Verizon has a $70 unlimited international data package, but I feel like I would still be receiving roaming or hidden charges.

Any help would be great.

Thank you!

Re: Cell phone options

Morning

My only concern is,will your phone work on the network here? Check it with your local shop where you have bought it and ask them if it works in Europe and is the phone sim free..saves you buying a new one here.

You will have roaming charges..anyone going on holidays and taking their phone with them know they can be massive so wouldn't recommend that.

Here are some examples.. international data roaming bill of 4,000 CHF and Dont use your Sunrise SIM for data in the UK!

However there is the option of checking if your phone will work here and just getting a pre paid card to get you started.
Once the permit is sorted you can check out the data offers for Blackberry with Sunrise,Swisscom,Orange etc..

Here is a thread that goes into a bit more details of using foreign mobile phones in Switzerland.
Using foreign mobile phone in Switzerland?

Hope it helps..

Verizon has a global roaming plan for $69.99 but it's not unlimited. You only get 100mb of data transmission per month, then it's $0.005 /KB after allowance. There's also a 200mb per month plan which costs $159.99 plus $0.005 /KB after allowance.
