I will be moving to Geneva from the United States in March and hope to use an Iphone 4 as my mobile phone. I am trying to decide if I should purchase it in the United States (for around $550) before coming to Switzerland or wait to get it in CH. If I purchase it in the United States, will there be any problems with compatibility, including it being Sim-locked or any other compatibility? Regarding the sim-lock issue, can it be "jailbroken"/"unlocked" so that it works in Switzerland? Can I get a better deal on the Iphone by buying it in Switzerland along with a contract rather than buying it in the United States?

homeslice...all depends on:
how long do you plan to be in Geneva (Switzerland)?
Will you be (potentially) buying the iPhone in the US attached to a carrier (aka, ATT/Verison) or unlocked from US Apple Store?

IF... you will be here for at least a year... I would suggest NOT buying an IPhone in the US and getting a 1 yr subscription here with one of the major providers (Orange or Swisscom.... http://shop.orange.ch/en/mobile-phon...ne/icat/apple/ or http://swisscomonlineshop.sso.bluewi...down=4&lang=EN )

I suggest doing your research online or via the forum - as cell plans don't work the same way as they do in the US (price/minutes wise) - all depends on your envisaged usage.

I moved from France and Jailbroke an Iphone 3G at the time - and it sucked - the phone was slow and a pain in the butt (I am a bit of a gadget guy hence the disappointment - but no more of a gadget guy than the avg modern male...)
