Blocking access to TV and Radio streamings. Possible?

Hello.

Do anybody know if I can block the access to these streams?

- In Router
- Cablecom/Swisscom/etc
- In Windows/Linux/Mac

I would like to have internet access but I don't want to watch TV or listen to the radio... I am not interested at all.

I hope so.

Greetings!

You have asked the same thing here re; Billag.

Have you called up your ISP to "block" these streams ? I doubt they will do it just for you but you will never know until you ask them.

For me, the Billag fee is a pseudo tax - I pay it irrespective of whether I use streams or not.

Thanks for the answer.

I asked them, but they didn't answer.

I hope they do it.

From Billag.ch...

Quote:
If a device is technically capable of receiving programs, you will be notified and charged. It is not neccessary to use the antenna or connect the unit to the cable network. Only if no antenna-function infrastructure (satellite, terrestrial, cable, internet) is present, is there no reporting requirement for a TV.
Hence, internet is classified by Billag as TV-capable infrastructure and thus you fill the bill and must splash the cash...

Re: Blocking access to TV and Radio streamings. Possible?

Hi,

in the future is highly likely that everyone will have to pay the tv license even if they do not have a tv. It just the cost of living here.

However, more of a concern is that previously you would pay the bill quarterly and as it was 115 CHF every 3 months it did not seem too high. In the future you will get one bill per year of 460 CHF (http://www.billag.ch/web/de/news_media/MM_09-12-10.html) However, it does seem if you pay if by direct debit you can pay it over 3 months. However, you must inform Billag if you wish to do it that way.

Best regards
Martin

Re: Do you pay BILLAG?

A small number of people here are excused paying for the Billag fee. That option is not on the poll.

Re: Do you pay BILLAG?

we pay for it.
Some years ago as I lived in a student appartment, we weren't paying and they came by to ask us if we have a TV, radio, notebook with internet, ... . I got lucky that the radio was not playing as I opened the door, if it was playing, I could get a fine of 5000.-. Since then we just pay for it and live without the fear of someone hearing the tv from the front door.

No, I didn't let them in, because they don't have the right to come in.

And no, I didn't started paying just afterwards, but as soon as I got my own place to stay I started paying.
I prefer to enjoy the TV or the radio and have to pay for billag as to have to listen to it quietly so that someone on the front door cannot hear it.

Also the possible fine is really high, which also made me start paying for it.

Btw. Billag suks

Re: Do you pay BILLAG?

Even if you have no TV, no radio, no PC, no mibile phone, absolutely no means of receiving TV or radio signals whatsoever you will be screwed. The Ständerat today voted to extend the charge to every household.

Re: Do you pay BILLAG?

About six months ago I sent Billag a letter sayin I had no tv or radio, or car or motorbike and had no intention of listening to the radio or watching the tv. I didn't mention internet.

They sent me a nice letter back saying I didn't need to pay but if I started to use the services I should let them know.

I read all the usual posts on the forum and per my experience they're just plain wrong.

My suggestion for people is to send a letter to Billag and ask. Then you can have your Nokia and have comfort of mind at the same time.

Baboon - I'm not sure what the decsion is you're referring to so perhaps this has changed.

My suggestion is to stop waiting for someone else to provide you information and be proactive.

As a matter of fact you don't need to bother sending a letter to billag (and wait for their "sacred answer") but you need to find the official text of law. In that case billag's complete rules available on Billag website.

Then you can have your Nokia, confort of mind, and independance.
