| | Swisscom internet login problem?
I suppose this falls into the category of "daft questons"
A neighbour of mine recently became a Swisscom DSL internet customer. She has a new PC & wireless router.
It all worked fine for some weeks until yesterday when the internet connection stopped working.
She spent an hour on the phone with the Swisscom help desk but no luck.
Today I rebooted the router & it has all the correct lights showing.
The PC (also rebooted) is showing a good connection to the wireless router but no internet connection.
I checked the filter on the telephone link is correctly fitted.
The only symptom (if it is a symptom) is a Swisscom browser window pops up where you can click on a link to the DSL start page; after you click a blank window pops up but it is never populated.
I do not know the Swisscom setup that well but I assume if she had accidentally deleted any log in details then a window would pop up asking for them?
I assume she deleted something?
Any idea where to look?

Can she connect with any other internet device, phone, laptop etc? Would be useful to know if is just the PC or the connection itself.

Try also with an ethernet cable to the router.

Maybe the one you're using is having problems with the pop up. Also check if a virus program is blocking them and (temporarily) disable pop-up blocking if your browser has that option.

Spent another 15 minutes on the phone with Swisscom help desk trying this & that - eventually they said - funny thing, since yesterday we have many customers with the same problem. Ars*holes!!!
So now we will wait until they fix it.
Thanks again for the support & ideas.

Hi All,
I came across this thread and thought of adding my 2 cents here.
I think I had similar problems with the Swisscom wireless router + modem(Centro Grande) for my new connection. I have two laptops (one with 802.11g network card and other one with 802.11n).
With both the laptops connected to the wireless device, I used to frequently lose the connection. Had called Swisscom and they investigated the problem - even sent a technician to check the line, but no resolution. I was advised to return the wireless device and get a new one.
A few days later, the new one also developed similar problems.
Luckily, the Swisscom helpdesk person this time was able to pinpoint the problem accurately - in the Router settings, under the 'Transmission' tab, the mode should be "802.11 g/b" instead of '802.11 n/g/b or automatic".
I could not quite understand why this needed to be changed, but he mentioned that this problem is not known to all technicians / support personnel, but this is the 'correct' solution if you have laptops using different 802.11 standards.
After making the suggested change in the router settings, my swisscom internet connection hasn't dropped as it used to earlier.
Hope this helps.
A

When I first got Swisscom, I had the same exact problem (but I was a new customer, and thus it had never worked before anyway).
All the lights were working and the computer was showing a connection... but there was no connection.
It turned out the problem was where the telephone wires come into the house, so the Swisscom guy had to fix that.
