Re: Fox HD Freesat Box: Optical connection

Yes Foxsat HDR - > Philips Home Cinema via Opt.
Don't think I did anything more than plug in the opti cable and set Home Cinema to use Opti In when I want sound through it.

Do you have something else with opti out to test the rest (cable plus AV in)

(I thought it was an ad for a free satellite box when I saw the title)

THe radio stations are on there as well so I sometimes use it without the TV for listening to Radio (2).

If you want me to check any menu setting let me know.

P.S. There's a hidden menu where you can open up the box to also receive non freesat channels.
Google "foxsat hidden menu".

Re: Fox HD Free Sat Box: Optical connection

I tried unplugging and plugging the cable from/into the Foxsat. I saw a flash of red light from the socket as the cable entered/left. Do you see that?

Re: Fox HD Free Sat Box: Optical connection

interestingly it works on the standard phone connections - so the cable could be buggered.
Yes, I get the red flashing light thing - but the no sound, hence the above conclusion. It it sounds fine on the phone connections TBH

Re: Fox HD Free Sat Box: Optical connection

I have a Freesat Humax HDR box and a Panasonic AV 5 channel tuner/amp connected only with an optical cable and it works fine.

The only agro is with Digital sound as used with some, but by no mean all, HD TV. The sound generally is too low on HD and only out of the front speakers. But when they switch to 5 channel it's twice as loud. So for example the BBC-HD station identification clips (the lion or the shark) rattle the windows and scare the cat. Then the sound goes back to being too low...
