I have very poor cell phone signal in some parts of the house. Recently, I found that a friend of mine had a cellphone signal booster installed in his boat. On theboat, the number of bars on the phone did not go up. Neither could he vouch for the effectiveness of this device.

Does anyone have experience with such devices? Recommendations? Are these just sales gimmics?

most phones you can type in a # code to increase the reception, but at a cost of the battery life.

Where can I get this code? Phone carrier? Phone manufacturer? The phones are iPhone 3, iPhone 4, and Samsung Galaxy 9000.
