Watch cablecom TV through laptop?

Hi Helpers,

Have searched the forum, but cant seem to find anything related to this topic, and Cabelcom weren't much help either with the standard response that "it depends on your laptop".

With a massive cost outlay furnishing my new apartment, I'm hoping to avoid buying a new TV. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and was wondering if I could use this as the TV screen to watch camblecom media box?

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers
Ashlee

Re: Watch cablecom TV through laptop?

I doubt your laptop has a TV in port to handle the signal. Some TV tuner laptop/PC cards may be able to handle a cable modem TV output...

If you get your internet from Cablecom you can watch a limited number (20) of non-English programmes here:

Re: Watch cablecom TV through laptop?

The answer would be..it depends.
You can get TV tuner cards for desktops, they generally plug into a pci port but on laptops things may be a bit more difficult due to space limitations.

There are always work arounds but they could end up costing more than a small tv

Hopefully someone on here can give you better advice but in any case let us know if you find an answer.

Re: Watch cablecom TV through laptop?

I have used this in the past, and have recently re-checked it out after they've increased their English channels (however with the exception of about 3 or 4 of the more obscure ones, I have them all already on Cablecom digital).

The problem I have experienced on my (4 yr. old) Dell Inspiron laptop (running XP), is that within a few minutes of starting a program, my CPU max.'s out at 100%, and the video stream just slows down, jumps and eventually locks.

This is using the free non-sub. option on both the stand alone downloaded version and through a browser.

This could well be a problem at my end, though, as I have experienced similar with other streamed video feeds.
