Switching to Sunrise - iPhone MicroSIM question

As my Orange contract is going to expire soon, I'm about to set up a switch away from Orange to Sunrise for my iPhone.

The Sunrise website makes it easy to set up and carry your number across - however if you are keeping your existing handset, there is no way to tell them you're using an iPhone 4, and therefore need a Micro SIM card.

Question - how do they you know you need a Micro SIM card? Will they be able to tell from your phone number that it's an iPhone 4 (I doubt it)?

Just wondering if anyone had already done this, and had found this out.

Re: Switching to Sunrise - iPhone MicroSIM question

I guess you will receive a new SIM card from Sunrise. Just cut it down so it is the same size as the micro-SIM that you have. I normally do this about once a month for people in our office who buy an iphone and find the SIM doesn't fit.

Yeah, I did that with the current one I've got when I upgraded my handset. I'd just prefer to get the proper one out of the box next time, rather than having to do a DIY job on it.

I'd assumed Sunrise would have got this covered, I'm obviously not going to be the only iPhone 4 contract switcher they get. However it doesn't look like they have.

Additional question -

Does anybody know, if you switch to a new provider and they organise porting the number to their network, if the customer still has to cancel the contract with the old provider him/herself?

Or is this all taken care of by the new provider when they move the number across?

There's a tool you can buy to crop the SIM card to fit. Most Sunrise shops are very likely to have this tool plus whoever is selling phones or SIM cards are also very likely to have one.

Thanks, but as I say, I already did that with the last one. I was hoping to get a proper Micro-SIM this time...

SIMs are ordered well in advance and shops would already have the standard SIMs in stock - and they want to go through this stock before ordering more, especially when they order SIMS in such large quantities and the micro SIM is for a limited number of devices.

You certainly won't be able to tell from your phone number that you have an iPhone 4. Your number is just allocated to the new SIM number.

That's what I feared...oh well, back to the customised hole punch gadget it is then.

You don't happen to know if the new provider automatically cancels the old contract, or if the customer still has to do it, do you?

The new provider can cancel you, but you usually have to fill in a form to send off to your old provider at the time of signing the new contract.

You still need to adhere to your old provider's contract termination clause and have all your bills paid before the new provider can port your number over.
