Midnight Alcohol Splash

I have this "friend" who after of hours of standing and sweating it out in a kitchen, came home to enjoy a nice refreshing beverage of a certain Honey Brandy recently acquired in the states. In a moment of slight loss of attention, said friends' hand slipped, and briefly splashed his keyboard with some sticky, yet even now fragrant smelling top of the evening to ya.
The keyboard, albeit sticky, seems to work just fine. But, is there a safe way to clean it off with out doing more damage?

No word of a lie, stick it in the dishwasher.

Anyone actually tried this?

If I had to pop out all the keys I don't think I would have the patience for it.

Cyber Clean may help. It's a gummy "high tech cleaning compound".

I don't think I could do without my keyboard for "two to five days" to let it dry .

Re: Midnight Alcohol Splash

I didn't go quite so far as to put it in the dishwasher, but I did wash mine in the sink. My keyboard separated into 4 distinct parts:

1. Top (including keys)
2. Rubber membrane
3. Circuit board
4. Bottom

I disassembled the keyboard and cleaned 1, 2 & 4 in hot, soapy water. No need to remove any keys. Let them dry (for an hour or two, overnight to be safe), put everything back together, and the keyboard was as good as new.

As long as the circuit board isn't causing trouble, no reason to wash it. Washing the other components is totally risk-free and will get rid of the sticky goop that you've managed to spill inside.

You could resort to carrier pidgeons and tying two cans and talking across the office about all the random stuff you like.

Re: Midnight Alcohol Splash

I put my keyboard in the dishwasher on the cold setting. I have a few keyboards and they only cost £8 so when they give up they give up. The only problem is the lettering comes off pretty fast.

Re: Midnight Alcohol Splash

keyboards are cheap as chips these days. buy a new one... If you cant afford one, stand in haubtbahnhof with a cup for 1/2 a day and that should get you enough for a new one....

Re: Midnight Alcohol Splash

Sounds like a lucky keyboard

OK back in the day .. don't ask how long ago... one of my jobs was to clean keyboards. Radio Shit... ops Shack. So basically it was a spray can of isopropyl alcohol , which is “rubbing alcohol” because it came in a spray can, I could direct the shots between the keys and get a lot of the gunk out. Unplug, spray between keys in short burst, then when you are done spraying, shake keyboard upside down to get all the gick out. Let stand for 10 minutes, then plug back in.

Good luck

Off topic, I know, but it reminded me of that guy who went to the doctor's and said, "Doc, I have a friend who has gonorrhea. What should he do?" And the doctor said, "Ok. Please drop your pants so I can examine your friend."

Re: Midnight Alcohol Splash

I used to always dishwasher my keyboard. But I would take it apart, and not put the electronic parts through the cycle.
