Cable Anschluss Fee

I just found out that we have to pay a Cable Anschluss Fee which is about 160 francs for every 6 months. Is this normal for everyone or is just cablecom customers. I have their TV, fixed line and internet.

Thanks in advance.

Do you own the building you live in? There's an annual "Anschlussgebühr" for each building and apartment. If you rent, usually that fee is already included in your rent. If you own the apartment or the building, you have to pay for the basic cable hookup. That doesn't include the subscription fee - you have to pay that so you're allowed to use the cable connection.

We're paying 270 Fr. per year on top of Cablecom's normal subscription tariff but our cable network doesn't belong to Cablecom. It belongs to the community and they rent it out to Cablecom.

Not necessarily. If you don't use the Cablecom line at all you can have the line sealed off and thus are entitled to have this charge deducted from your rent. We have Swisscom TV and Internet, so why pay Cablecom to give us a signal we don't want?

Usually done through the owner/agency who deals with these charges and thus knows not to factor them into your rent.

Some people do it directly with CC and the form to do this is here

I have just internet access from Cablecom for about 30 per month and still have to pay about 30 per month for the maintenance fee to a local company. Yes, I do have some "free" channels in the cable, but I am not interested in them.

Also Swisscom charges for line maintenance if only the Internet access is purchased. But they used to have a "deal" where one could have Internet access over the telco wires and a mobile phone contract, then there would not be this line maintenance fee.

And, by the way, in my area - Cossonay, the slowest Cablecom internet 2Mb downlink, 200kb uplink - the VOIP with Switzernet barely works - there is often chopped voice on the uplink. That is with no other traffic whatsoever. Cablecom has its own VOIP offer so they don't care with providing any quality of service for third-party VOIP.
