OK, so the free International calls are actually VOIP based. There is a slight degradation in quality, and an echo. Hmmm...

is any way we can get higher speed in wireless internet?
We have fiber power 20 but the laptop in other room doesn't get it that high. We thought in increasing to 50 but looks like our router will not give it more anyway so we will be paying more for nothing.
Advice?

Advice? | | | | | Wireless speeds are always disappointing, and you will never really achieve the wired speeds that your ISP offers (This is the theoretical maximum).
To get better wireless speeds...
1) Place the wireless router high up, and if it has 2 antennae , set them at opposing right angles, if 3 antennae , set the outer two at right angles and the inner antennae 45 degrees to the outer two on the Y axis and 45 degrees back on the Z axis.
2) Ensure you choose an uncongested channel, i.e. get off the default (usually 11) channel. This is done via your routers config menu.
3) Try to match the client router brand to the same brand as the Router. If necessary replace a built in wireless adapter with a paired/twinned USB Wireless adaptor for the router.
4) Do not place the router near other wireless devices such as Phone base stations.
5) Try to position the router in line of sight of the clients, avoid trying to pass through walls if you have to.
6) Update your router firmware and client drivers.
7) Avoid bridging/repeaters.
8) Replace encryption with MAC address filtering.
9) Buy a long CAT-5 ethernet cable and use wired networking when you can. It's 1CHf per meter and can go up to 100M.
10) Check the connections and ensure people near by aren't stealing bandwidth.
11) Try to use a later model 'N' router, avoid draft-N and Pre-N routers.
FWIW,
I have the FP 100 (Mb/s) package.
My iPad gets 27Mb/s in perfect conditions.
Another PC in the house get's 40Mb/s (Bursts up to 120Mb/s), this uses a matched USB wireless adaptor.
Wired in, I get the full speed.

For those of you who started your gmail in the States, you can use their call function from your email webpage and calls are free. At least for the remainder of this year.

Just got my very lengthy call from UPC today trying to persuade me to shift to their PowerCombi package with the free international calls etc from 99CHF. To be honest I'm one of those customers who if I've no problem with current service can't be bothered to switch to a new supplier. Got too many other things to bother about. My swisscom (fixed number & internet) and upc (digital tv) bill at the moment are about 150 per month max. And everything works fine. Not sure if it's worth switching and just wanted to to find out from those who have signed up to this PowerCombi package how satisfied they are with the service.

The quality is very good.

However, in your case you'd be looking at about 50 Fr. per month in savings and internet speeds that are at least 4 times higher than what Swisscom is offering you right now, so perhaps you might consider switching.
Anyway - we've had Cablecom for phone, internet and TV for 2 1/2 years now here. There have been some outages (and if you have all services from the same provider, an outage means no TV, no phone and no internet) but overall, the product is great. Voice quality is great, internet is insanely fast and the TV box sucks (but you already have TV from Cablecom, so you know that :-)

Hey,
We've had this deal for a while now from Cablecom...strange they are only advertising it now though.
BUT it is true we get 100 MB broadband, free calls (which we use to call UK and Australia and the quality is great) plus we have all the TV channels including BBC, ITV and Channel 4 etc.
Customer service is OK too. They were pretty helpful in explaining how to install it as we were clueless!
Overall worth the money

We received a credit for switching over from Swisscom. The main difference for us was that we had two fixed Swisscom lines at home as I have an office at home. With cablecom the second line is 10 chf a month, and it has the same features as the main number (free calls to certain countries, etc).
The real challenge was keeping our phone number. This is how Swisscom seeks revenge if you want to switch to cablecom from Swisscom.
If you refer a new customer to Cablecom, you also receive a credit on your bill.
