| | Re: New Cablecom WLAN/VOIP Router - Security warning.
I am off site at work. Funnily, when I try it from my work computer it times out (must be a firewall issue at work), trying it from my iphone I get a connection and am asked for username and password, however, it is not the normal username passsword combination that I use when I log in locally??????!!!!!!
Any ideas?
I actually only need it in case my router assigns a new IP to my NAS. From my understanding I cannot set a fixed IP address to computers with this router? I once had this issue with another router and then I had a problem as I couldnt access my nas as all the port forwarding rules were set for a wrong IP address. If I could log on to the router I could check what IP the NAS has and change the forwarding rules remotely.
Or is there a better way of doing this?

Ok, I'm with the Ubee modem since one week with Power Combi and everything works fine.
I had to call them back to get an answer about my question (Ubee instead of Thomson WLAN) but they finally told me it was OK and I received it in the mail 3 days later.

im at least happy that the new white modem doesnt flash fairly large led's all the time like the motorola one it replaces... that was like a permanent fireworks display in my living room at night.

Without starting a new thread on the new router.
I have it and it's set up and working, but the signal strength/distance doesn't appear to be that great. I could use wifi on my balcony with my old Linksys, but not the CC modem. Is there a way I can check or boost the signal strength?

Try switching to single channel and using the 2.4GHz option. 5GHz seems to drop off quite quickly over range.
Point the left antennae horizontal to the floor and pointing away from the router, point the right antennae in the same way, and then move it 45 deg horizontally away from the other antennae, and then 45 deg upwards.
Also try one vertical to the floor, and the other pointing away horizontally.
Try another channel.
Try putting the router as high up as possible...
Failing that, turn off the radio on the CC router, plug your old router into the CC router and carry on using your old one.

Got my new Thomson Modem/Router in place, changed its admin user, admin password, SSID and Wifi Passkey.. okay after fiddling with it for a few hours. Not a networking geek but did a few layman tests I thought I should share the results with this thread. Did these:
1. With one machine on wifi and another on ethernet both to my old Netgear that is now connected to the new Thomson, did some speedtest.net tests
2. Disconnected old Netgear, now Thomson router/wifi alone, moved the connections directly to the new Thomson router and did another round of tests.
Significant improvement of 2 over 1, now hovering on the promised 50mbps on the ethernet connection. I noticed I had to disable the wifi connection on the ethernet connected machine to attain this speed (someone tell us why). Wifi used to get 16mbps now getting 23mbps
3. Downloaded and executed the FiberPower Optimizer utility from the CC support site. Nothing much said about what tweaks this thing does but I saw something about QoS check being disabled and MTU size being changed.. on the fast display during installation.
Ethernet speed shot up to 55 after this, wifi gets 26+. Android phone (the EF Fav ZTE SF) now able to reconnect to wifi easily .. or so it seems. Happy ever after.

I just got this modem, and am wondering if the wifi can be enabled/disabled via the physical button on the side of the modem According to the user guide (see atteched pic), it can do both, 1)act as an on/off switch, and 2) do a WPA push. Just that I can't make the button turn on/off, even if I hold it for 3 seconds, as suggested on the "trouble-shooting" guide at the end of the manual: | Quote: | | | | Q. It seems that the wireless network is not working
A. Check the WiFi LED on the front panel. If it is no lighted, press on the WPS button (on the side of the
modem) during 3 seconds and then check again the WiFi LED. If it is lighted, then the WiFi is enabled. | | | | | |
