Yesterday I received a letter from upc-cablecom announcing their new name and an adjustment to my internet subscription (25,000/2,500 Kbit/s instead of the previous 10,000/1,000 at no extra cost).
It looked so much like an advertising leaflet that I almost recycled it instead of reading it. I was not very impressed that my contract details came in the form of a fold out piece of card rather than a sealed letter.
My Cablecom bills included the digital TV bit, but there's no mention of this in the letter.
It also came in German. No problem reading that myself, but they've obviously forgotten that all my previous correspondence came in English. There's a note in there that they will charge CHF 1.50 per per invoice if I continue to receive paper bills. From their
website Questons and Answers:

| Electronic vs. paper bills
upc cablecom advocates dispensing with paper-based bills and provides several alternative options instead. Switching to paperless invoices comes with several advantages: it is easier to make payments and you reduce your carbon footprint at the same time. Please note that when receiving your bills by post after taking out a new subscription or switching a product, this will be subject to a charge of CHF 1.50 per bill. | |

It looks as though they've already put me in the category of having a new contract or switching a product.
Having had previous experience of ISP service plummeting after a takeover, I remain sceptical for the moment. I hope this scepticism proves to be unjustified.
