Hi,

I have a swisscom economy line + internet connection and I moved apartments. I got an sms today that my internet is active but I can't connect.

I called swisscom in the morning and the operator asked me to wait until 4PM. Now they say that they have opened the line until the building in a "free" wire/port and I need an electrician to connect it to the apartment.

The previous tenant was on sunrise and I have her name/number but the operator says that they can't do much about it now as the line is active on an open port.

Does this make any sense ? I speak no german and from the forum it seems that one needs to find not only a good electrician but one who lives close. A lot of hassle and swisscom says nothing about this beforehand. I would have taken a wireless if I knew it is going to be so difficult !

Also, from the posts, I understand that one needs to connect this "new port" to the apartment line. I know where the electric box is (in the basement). Is it possible to do it yourself ? If yes, how ? It seems that one may end up paying more than 100 chf, which seems very unreasonable to me.

Yes It is completely unreasonable that YOU have to pay to extend SWISSCOM's network. You could probably do it yourself if you knew a bit about this stuff though

Everything you say sounds correct

You can connect yourself if you are a certified telecoms installer and have the tools and knowhow (including ability to access the info at Swisscom to find out what line was assigned to you)

If you don't have the above, then you'll have to pay someone to do it for you.
Look in your local phone directory for your local electrician who also does phone lines.

Swisscom should be able to recommend you an electrician as well. They did for me
