lost 'favourites' and 'add to favourites'

Peanut-brain here has somehow lost 'Favourites' and 'Add to Favourites' which used to appear on the toolbar when I used Internet Explorer.
I'm running Windows 7.
I obviously stupidly let a 'friend' use my computer and am aware of several things having been changed.
The 'friend' is now en-route back to Canada and can't be contacted which maybe just as well as I might be tempted to be a bit rude.
I am 74 years old so computers aren't my strongpoint. That's my excuse anyway.
If anyone can help I'd be really grateful.

Re: lost 'favourites' and 'add to favourites'

Try right-clicking on the toolbar and opening 'customise'. It may be that it was deleted there. I am using Vista so it may be a bit different.

..... alternatively use Firefox or Chrome.

[why is there still this engrained loyalty to IE and everything M$?]

I tried Chrome but I couldn't get all my favourites as easily as IE. I like the IE 'Favourites Bar'

Chrome is my second choice, after Mr. Foxy, but on both I have set up a favourites toolbar along the top with different folders - very easy to find what I need. Adding is just a case of hitting the star r.h.s. of address bar twice and specifying location.

TO THE OP
: Position your mouse curser in the toolbar area and right click - this reveal all your toolbar options.
Those with a tick are displayed, those without, not. You should see "Favourites Bar" - just left click this to tick for displaying.

Re: lost 'favourites' and 'add to favourites'

Thanks, people.
What you suggested has enabled me to find an 'add to favourites' button,
but I still can't find my vast list of websites which were in my 'favourites'.
Anyone know a computer expert in Lausanne who could be bribed to sort out my stupidity?

Once you've clicked on favourites toolbar, 3 tabs should be revealed - Favourites/Feeds/History - click Favourites.

Alternatively click on "Favourites" on menu toolbar - top left of page.

Or have you tried both/either and zilch - nothing - all gone, deleted?

Re: lost 'favourites' and 'add to favourites'

Look in the Windows Explorer folder to see if they have been deleted.

Probably: Local Disc 'C' Drive - Users - (Your User Name) - Favourites

Probably the flip side of the kneejerk anti-microsoft reaction.
