Re: Free Fast Public DNS servers

Ran the test, took a lot longer than the five minutes advertised in the blurb:

Are you a power-user with 5 minutes to spare? Do you want a faster internet experience?
Much more to the point, I am not sure what, if anything, the results mean. I was told that Server X is 18.5% (love the pseudo-precision ) faster than my current server. That means that, at this time, it was 18.5% faster. But how about tomorrow?

My current servers (both primary and secondary) are google.com servers, which are very good. I suppose that for someone who is using a crummy server provided by their ISP this might be an eye opener.

While on the topic of changing defalt internet servers, let me suggest that those who care about accurate time check out the NTP Pool Project. Note that Windows only checks the NTP servers once a week by default; I consider this a typical Bill Gates joke. Will not tell you how to change the frequency of updating (if you can safely make changes to the registry you can look up what needs to be changed ).

Re: Free Fast Public DNS servers

If like me , you are connecting to the internet via a preferred secondary router first, which then goes into the last router on your network, the last router will appear to be the fastest.

i.e I have my trusty Netgear that I did not want to give up, so plugged this into my Thomson Cablecom router, with the Thomson router appearing to respond fastest to DNS requests made by the Netgear. The trick is to set the second fastest DNS responder in the Thomson router DNS config pages.
